There had been ideas on how to replace th gadget with something that does not require the window border to be used up. It's mostly a matter of time. |
Well, other OSes have a big ugly status bar at the bottom of the window. Actually, a status bar would be useful and would make best sense if it always appeared below the horizontal scroll-bar (when the scroll bars are there.
Nice progress, BTW. I'm sure that all OS 4 users are eager to try out a beta version, when you guys get that far.

| Don't get a headache by the design of the window yet. I think thats one of the smaller problems they surely have Last edited by fingus on 08-Nov-2009 at 09:06 PM.

I am not sure, though, whether that is possible. |
Nit picking here, but anything is *posible* in a computer, it's more a question of how much effort it would require. If it required increasing the program size by 10 times, or completely rewriting a huge program (like Firefox), or some beyond-PhD mathematics, then you probably wouldn't do it!
BTW, Timberwolf is looking very nice
P.S. I noticed the Blender icon is again conspicious by it's presence in your screenshots. Must be very hard having to keep moving it to somewhere it can be seen Last edited by ChrisH on 08-Nov-2009 at 11:55 PM. Last edited by ChrisH on 08-Nov-2009 at 11:53 PM.

Yes, the menu system is another hot candidate for a rewrite - it hasn't changed since 2.0 times. When programming menus you suddenly find yourself in real stone age, especially if you need dynamic menu content that reacts to the current state of your app's functions. |
Agreed. At one time or the other, the menu system needs an overhaul, especially in the way it is programmed.

As alternative you can always ask to mason to build an Amiga skin for FF because FF has its entire GUI written in XUL, so it's totally reconfigurable from this POW |
You're telling me? ;)
Yeah, at one point we'll ask Mason to make an AmigaOS theme, but right now, I am quite content with getting the original thing to work.
@all
The idea about the sizing gadget was to have a triangular gadget instead of a rectangle, i.e. imagine a pyramid with the apex in the window corner. That way, both window borders could be "narrow" and you would still have more than a few pixels of border to grab on to.

"Possible" means making it possible without modifying the layout code and Gecko itself. That code needs to stay clean so updating to a new version goes smooth. As someone already pointed out to me, it's not possible in the sense that scrollbars are part of the web page design and are thus subject to CSS.

That's the icon of the old port, and there is nothing behind it being on the screenshots. _________________ Seriously, if you want to contact me do not bother sending me a PM here. Write me a mail

| Congratulations Rogue on Timberwolf and all who are contributing; I hope I get to use this in the not too distant future, surely a great day for the Amiga once it is released. The OS then has a very important piece of software that I think should be part of any centric strategy on where an OS goes to next... the cloud :) Not too mention the exciting progress made with OWB, also a great effort there!

| Great news! I can't want to try this thing out!
I don't agree that everything needs to be "Amigaized", like popup/RMB menus and scroll bars, since it would break the skin design of FF and the pages' CSS.
OT: Quote:
Totally unrelated but.. So when is that ugly, non useful wide window frame on the right side of windows going to beremoved from the OS completly??? IMHO it's a total waste of space as well as being ugly.. Simply makes no use being there. |
It can be put in the bottom border by a window flag. MUI defaults to putting it at the bottom border.
But the point is that if you remove the thick border whilst keeping the resize gadget you would get a non-rectangular window area. That is the basic problem IMO.
But as Rogue said, making it triangular would make it look better. But how would programs layout their contents with a size gadget occuping a corner of the display? Should it incorporate clipping so it cannot be overwritten by user graphics? The rest of the title bar and border can now be overwritten by user graphics so this gadget would too.
Or perhaps the window would announce that it has a think border to the user programmers but draw a think border anyway? Then what if the user wants to fill the window body with an image or a different colour: Then the "invisible" border would not get filled because the program thinks it's thick. _________________ - Don't get fooled by my avatar, I'm not like that (anymore, mostly... maybe only sometimes) > Amiga Classic and OS4 developer for OnyxSoft.

| Some "constructive feedback":
-Keep the original theme, when outsiders see Firefox running on Amiga it will generate interest, make it the default theme.
-Good work. Thank you for letting us be part of the ride. |

What AmigaOS 4.1 lacking is an update to date modern browser like firefox. Are there plans for that? |

| Arrrrrrrrrrriighttt!! * Gives thumps up * That was very important step indeed. So we are getting one out of the way, Jahc is working through Messenger Live...so we are getting that out of the way too, and Jahc worked through IRC client (WookieChat) that is gotten out of the way. I am assumping a program like VLC player would be the next porting step, we have already an MP 3 player, so we are getting the essential and part of the OS functionality out of the way. I love that. |
