| Well, I am probably the first to screw it up.
I downloaded and burned the ISO to CD fine. I ran the installer, then when it asked for me to press "o" and "k", I did so. The computer then came up with
erasing..
Everything then froze and did nothing else. I know from previous updates that it normally takes only a few seconds, but I left it for a very long time just in case (about 15 minutes).
Basically my A1 will now not boot. Time to contact the dealer for a new ROM. |

| Everything perfect here, too
Just a question: given that now there is only 1 version of the slb, does this mean that it is possible to make a slb entry also for Linux even if the FS used on the Amiga side is SFS?

Yes, as long as you install the new "SLB". This new version is "universal". To check the supported feature of an slb, just do "version slb_v2 full" from an AOS shell. |

The controller doesn't seem to appear. Make sure the card is properly seated. |
Hey, all right!!! Thanks, Rogue. I pulled out the card to test it in a Wintel box which recognized it fine and then carefully put it back in my A1. Now there's no error message. Only need to wait for the drivers now... Thanks again, _________________ -- -=#Val#=- Valiant@Camelot

| I sent my motherboard to be updated with the USB/DMA patch, and the dealer said he's going to make sure that everything on the board is up to date, including jumpers and latest UBoot version - this means I'll proably get it back with this update installed. What steps should I follow to make sure that I can boot OS4 so I can install the latest SLB? (in a Windows install, I'd press a function key during bootup and that would prompt me for a driver disk, what's the OS4 equivalent?)
I'm planning on reformatting my SYS: partition anyway because I want to install SFS, so any advice involving nukes raining down on my OS4 install is still acceptable |

Yeah, of course I was talking of that one

This is new to me, good to know. Thank you for the answer!

| busytech: that kinda thing sadly happens sometimes and thats why rom flashing is a bad idea in the first place , lets hope you get yer new rom fast.
best of luck and let the dealer flash the rom for you before you get it, that way you will save some grief and the dealer would feel proud

I didn't see any mention that the new SLB is required, but it must be because I didn't install it and now my A1 is refusing to boot, claiming it can't find the SLB
|
Well, I only read the U-Boot-Readme.pdf. Now I see the slb directory, has a file that tells you to install the new slb before installing the new UBoot. I would have been nice if the pdf file told you to look in the slb directory before doing anything else.
I have the same problem. I guess I'm going to have to re-install the old UBoot to do that installation.

| @dimmck wouldnt you be able to boot from the OS4 install cd (update cd), and then update the slb from there?.. it would save you 2 times of rom flash _________________

If it helps any, I read the right documents slipped the software into the l drive and then diod njot install it. I had then to reinstall the older firmware and start over, but because I am a complete idiot I did this twice!
Now my problem is only the long BUS 0: timeout because I have a PCI IDE, otherwise no bother.
Thanks Hyprion good work as always and very professional -- I should be the test case for "how can a stupid moron screw this up" and how long will he try things that cannot work before finding the one that does and then doing it twice! _________________ Greg Schofield, Perth Australia

I missed the readme for the new SLB because I downloaded the archive onto a Windows box, which shows the file as a binary as it doesn't have a .txt or .doc extention. So I'm blaming Microsoft

I booted from the update 1 CD, the original OS4 CD just crashes during boot. After installing the new SLB it works fine, except now U-Boot sits for ages scanning the on-board IDE bus and still doesn't find the CD drive that's attached to it. _________________ Who do you serve, and who do you trust? - Galen

| 2 questions- 1. with an A1XE-G4 with radeon 9200SE/128MB card, post uBoot/AOS4 selection, my screen remains blank for ~10+ seconds before coming up with the workbench screen. Will the AGP fix in uBoot perhaps affect this?
2. Any minor unmentioned changes in USB support that may help sporadic USB KVM mouse/kb recognition from within OS4? (assuming this is solely a driver issue, but worth asking..?) _________________ Are we not done with the same silly arguments and flames yet??!

| Well, I managed my first UBoot flash.. I'm kinda disappointed though, I was hoping for an excuse to pry the flash rom socket off the board. Actually it wasn't quite smooth.. I tried at first and got "Bad Magic Number", so I tried IDE RESET first and all went great.
Flash is wonderful stuff, sure beats booting from paper tape. (Oops, my age is showing again)
Hats off to Hyperion and all the developers, this is the good stuff!

Yep, it would. But you don't want to see the entropy in my office. It would take me a lot longer to find my second CD than to reflash twice.

| Something which I experienced after the update:
The AWeb pngdecoder module crashes sporadically now, and it never crashed before. I am using AWeb APL Lite 3.5.05 beta. _________________ Games, programs, reviews

That has happened to me and to my friend after we installed update 2 (we both own ua1) He thought maybe it was scanning usb drvices.
Anyone have any ideas on this? |

During the black screen AmigaOS4 also configures the Internet connection, and when I used DHCP there was such slowdown. So I turned off DHCP and configured my LAN settings properly and now it boots much faster. _________________ Games, programs, reviews

| THANKS HYPERION ENTERTAINMENT for a exellent WORK! And Thanks to all betatesters for their work with beta testing! Your works are a huge task and it push OS4 forward to a fantastic Computer system!
The new Uboot works fine here with my AmigaONE XE G4 800. OK ihave to change a boot parameter to get it boot again from my HD with new Uboot but it was so simple to change so my 9 years old son could do it.
Now its going to be very fun to install coming Update 3 and coming Warp3D!
