| got it installed at last but usbcontrol complains about newlib.library not being 52.20 and there is no lib of this type in LIBS: nor in the base.lha.
I have noticed the newlib.kmod and it is in my kicklayout file, so where is this newlib.library ? |

| @lionstorm,
Just a thought, but did you cold reboot? The new kick files need to be loaded and a warm reset won't do that.

| yes cold reboot and even on/off my A1 !!!
it is very strange : the new newlib.library.kmod from 28june2007 is in kickstart but when I type version newlib.library -> version 52.3
so I dont know from where comes this 52.3 version and why the one in the kickstart drawer is not taken
I have triple boot os4final/upd4/linux but the kickstart drawer for upd4 does not contain any newlib.library.kmod
is it a conflict with the SDK ? EDIT : no Last edited by lionstorm on 18-Jul-2007 at 09:29 PM.

Withou USB, I'm lost. Bohooouu 8°(

| finally it is working !!!
I never realised my kicklayout was taken from my previous update4 partition (even if there is a drawer for os4final and an entry in kicklayout for os4final) and not from my os4final partition
just had to change partition priority and now usbctrl does not complain !
again thanks to everyone involved in this update : |

Context is everything.
I was sparring with redrumloa and was replying to this bit he said at the time: Quote:
My remarks weren't necessarily that development was at a dead standstill, just that remarks like "Things are great, I just can't tell you!" make the hair stick up on the back of my neck. |
Of course he responded in kind and we had a good laugh about it.
Seems I'm a lot better at fishing than I thought... _________________ ExecSG Team Lead

Well, the Python module and stack protection changes are for sure quite useful for the porting people. |
Well, both are useful for anybody not only porting. The stack issue is omnipresent, if you have a program that uses a lot of stack you may run out of it and crash. At least this now crashes immediately, not only after the program has overwritten half of your memory.
Python is a universal scripting language, and as such it will eventually replace and/or exist next to AREXX. We are planning a language-neutral scripting host for a future update, so Python is a good choice. _________________ Seriously, if you want to contact me do not bother sending me a PM here. are there any plans to make shared objects the "official" library model and leave .library files for backwards compatibility only? |
No, since they do not fulfill the same purpose. shared objects can't share data per se, that is a functionality that you would have to implement yourself. Shared libraries do that automatically...
The shared objects are really mostly meant for porting... _________________ Thomas, the kernel guy

is it ok if I unpack with dopus and overwrite everything ? |
Yes, you can just simply unpack the archive in your sys partition.
I'm surprised though, I had heard that the installer hung for one tester after it unpacked the update, but never before that...
anyway, just unpack it but take care to preserve file attributes and paths. _________________ Seriously, if you want to contact me do not bother sending me a PM here. Write me a mail

newlib.library.kmod is loaded via kicklayout, so you should have a line
"MODULE Kickstart/newlib.library.kmod"
in you sys:kickstart/kicklayout file... If not, you're missing an update, probably.
You can add the line manually, though... _________________ Thomas, the kernel guy

Another question, if I may: ELF shared objects are now officially part of the OS; given that they are in many ways better than amiga .library files, are there any plans to make shared objects the "official" library model and leave .library files for backwards compatibility only? |
For the moment, there are no plans to have shared objects replace libraries. _________________ Seriously, if you want to contact me do not bother sending me a PM here. Write me a mail
