Someone really should make an iconset installer, that makes backup of the previous set, for easy uninstallation. Then u could switch between icon sets real easy

Very nice! Thanks elena and Massimo!

It is a good thing having the famouse Power Icons on OS4. Personally i'm looking forward for the new Glow Icons (256 colors palette for every icon) of Mason. But ehi! It is very cool to have also png icons!

Thanks so much.

It shows a selected icon, but doesnt update the movement in real time.. like how amigaos currently does window movement/repositioning.. thats alright. I will definately use Powericons on my A1.

You'll like to hear, then, that the AmigaOS 4.0 version of PowerIcons does indeed show the icon in realtime when moving it around (complete with alpha blending). Also, the new icon library already supports things like making "default" icons slightly transparent (selectable in workbench prefs), and of course the shadow/outline effect of icon labels is also already included. Furthermore, you may opt to show the label when moving icons.

Also, the patch is better integrated into the system.

@ CodeSmith

I am running PowerIcons 1.05 [68k]. This currently uses an outline when moving icons. At a guess I'd say it's down the processor speed. It's not impossible but far more sensible to do this rather than moving a semi transparent image (Depending on how many icons you have selected) around the screen on a 50-75Mhz system.

I don't doubt that an A1 could handle this with a little more ease.

FuZion.

I just noticed, there's a PowerIcons 1.06BETA now. I'll give that a go.

Although I've just read the real reason why PowerIcons drags a border instead of the icon. Maybe Hyperion can help out here in OS4

This is definatly very cool

Now all we need is for them to be animated, and some drawer icon set made instead of folders

I'm looking forward to use the glowicons made by Marin ... with powericons to "remove" the background

I really tend to hate PNG icons. I hate over-rendered, over stylised icons like the ones found in MorphOS and most KDE icon packs, they fail to perform the function they should (the second shot is a good example of this). I much prefer the simple clear style of MacOS X icons and GlowIcons. I think that the Glowicons style should be adopted for the overall look of the OS. I tried PowerIcons before and I was impressed with it, but the icons available were pants, and it idn't have the same Amiga feeling as Glowicons.

At first I thought this was a "nice" bit of news, but generally uninteresting. However I then I took a look at the first picture, and there it was [Glow Revolution], glowicons, in glorious, antialiased, 32bit, I was sold

But then it gets better, I realise that this is HJF's workbench we're looking at, so it's got the endorsement of one of the lead coders. Reading through the comments there is details of how much better this patch is now integrated with the system and how it's improved in funtionality.

Add a calculated alpha-glow effect as one of the selection options, and this will be perfect.

GREAT

Thanks to both (Elena e Massimo) for the really useful job

without cares if red, blue or . . . the best example, about HOW a programmer would have to begin to work/think.

Cheers

@Uncharted

Real time calculated 'glow' effect. This is something I have been wondering for a while. I take it you are talking about the outline glow effect on the glow icons & not the actual image itself.

Elena, What's the chances of this?

Because the second image would be larger than the original I take it that the 'glow' would have to be calculated before the click, only be invisible until the icon got clicked. It'd be a bit of work, with the whole alpha chanel & all that. ie. Where would the edge of the icon start so that the glow could be applied?

Who knows... Don't get me wrong. PowerIcons like this is just fine.

FuZion.

@ Uncharted,

I hadn't noticed the glow icons, Doh!

Now what would be cool - is if - like you said - it could calculate the glow so that way anything could be a glow icon.

But I'd still like to see an animated icon set - like in days of yor, when you would click on a drawer it would open etc..

@Rogue

Wrap it up and stick it in a bag. Do you take cash?!?!?

The icon for the f'n RAM disk is worth the price of admission, GIMMIE!

Am I correct in assuming (hoping, dreaming?) that these wonderful offerings are going to be in the contributions drawer of OS4?

Doug

You need another one to play when the computer is actually ready to use.
Maybe add more for malfunctions and then we'll have music all day.
