| thats good news, would the GUI look any different when it runs on OS4? i've always thought that pagestream looks a little 'shabby' (sorry guys) even though its quite an impressive and intelligent program i think it could do with a bit of 'sparkle'
what does anyone else think?
cheers niceguy1979
ps. dont get me wrong - i think a new serious bit of software for OS4 is really good news |

| Truly awesome.
I would be interested in reading any reviews about the OS4.0 version (with a comparison and contrast to the 68k one).
BTW: I am already a VERY happy owner of the 68k version.

I'd actually like to SEE the OS4 version (which I ordered and paid for months ago). But at the same time, I know it's not Deron's fault. It seems he was promised an A1 to develop PgS on but it hasn't arrived yet. _________________ The Rear Window blog

Grasshopper has released a test version of PageStream5.0 for the Amiga 68k and Amiga OS4 PPC |
that's not quite true imho.
deron released a little "test program" which outputs some values on the different systems (os3.x, os4 and mos). it is not yet pagestream5 but just a test to see some new routines working as new versions will come with a new gui (mui for mos and reaction for os4).

| @MichaelMerkel,
Thanks for clarifying this.. Seems like the news-poster jumped the gun a bit here. I really thought we'd see some OS4 screenshots of Pagestream 5..

| Linux demo version doesn't work.
For a start:
The "Run PageStream5" script isn't executable by default, and then tries to run PageStream5, not PageStream5Demo
Fixing that results in a problem loading a shared library liblinc.so.1 that cannot be found.
Edit: Ah! liblinc is a networking library, part of a package called 'linc' ... emerging that makes it work fine Last edited by Hattig on 06-Nov-2004 at 07:42 PM.

| WOOHOO this is my favorit part of it all:
"PageStream4.1 for Amiga68k requires at least a 68000 processor with AmigaOS 2.04 or later. It also requires at least 25MB of hard drive space and 6mb of memory available to PageStream. We recommend a 68040 or better, 12mb of memory, and a non-interlaced display."
Which means I could use it in my amiga 500 if I want :D All i have to do is upgrade the ram and get a hard drive and I am set..weeeeeeeeee |

I am sure this will change soon. Supporting systems that are now ridiculously old is more and more difficult and hinders further development of the program, as Deron cannot use the more modern features of the OS. _________________ The Rear Window blog

Yup. I ordered the OS4 version within a week or so of it being offered. My 68k version of 4.1 works OK on my A1, but it would be nice to have the OS4 version I paid extra money for over and above the 68k version I already owned anway.
I was kind of hoping Deron would automatically make the OS4 release a version 5 release only, even for those of us who ordered the OS4 version immediately upon announcement when PgS was still at version 4.1. I think he did it that way because of unavoidable delays on the Mac OSx version. I know and accept that the delay is not Deron's fault. But if I end up finally getting the OS4 specific version and it's 4.1.x.x, it will never even get used. I'll just end up buying another upgrade to version 5. Not really fair to the consumer, either.

Don't think that OS-functions would be the problem, but the missing CPU-Power.
At some point you just want to add features that make working on a real 68k pure pain. _________________ - We don't need good ideas, we haven't run out on bad ones yet - blame Canada
