Software News   Software News : OS4 native CAMD and emu10kx MIDI driver
   posted by DaveAE on 16-Apr-2005 17:58:33 (6965 reads)
I've submitted my port of the MIDI library CAMD to OS4depot. It includes the OS4 native port of the AROS sources, originally by Kjetil Matheussen. Next to that it also has a native emu10kx CAMD driver. You have to use these two in combination, since the driver model changed for OS4.

Since I didn't find people to test it, here is your chance.

And before you ask, yes, I intend to write a driver for the onboard gameport and also the Vivaldi interface. Don't ask me when though...

Kind regards,

Davy Wentzler

How do I install this? I figure the camd.library goes into SYS:Libs but, where does the other one go?

I would try:

SystemOS4:Devs/AudioModes/emu10kx
or whatever you call your sys:Devs/AudioModes/emu10kx

Can this only be used with a Soundblaster live? Will it work with a Vibra soundcard?

What is a Vibra? A SB128?

Regards.

I think it should be:

sys:Devs/MIDI/emu10kx

Yes, I use the SB128 driver. I did see an explanation somewhere that Creative keep producing the same sound cards with only the model names changed.

@jahc

It is not about audio, it is about MIDI. Some SB Live cards have gameports too which can be used for MIDI.

I made a directory structure in the archive, so I didn't think there would have been questions on how or where to install it. But yes, it goes into devs:MIDI.

This archive is probably only useful to someone if you already had MIDI running on your A1, for example by using the previous (emulated) camd.lha from OS4depot. In any case, you need a soundcard with an emu10k1 or emu10k2 chip and a gameport. So, the SB128/Vibra card won't work with this.

Yes, but an SB128 is not a Live. If it were a Live, then you wouldn't be using an SB128 driver.

Live = emu10kx

I guess I'll have to do MIDI support for the SB128

Regards,

Ross.

That'd include me. What improvements are there?

Also, I have one of the 'Vivaldi' interfaces and can confirm it works.

Which Amiga MIDI application are you using on your A1? Is there anything that can play a MIDI file on A1/OS4?

I was under the impression that these would be just a drop in replacement for what I currently have so I just copied them over to their correct directories. However, now when I fire up Horny and look at the MIDI Inputs/Outputs it's telling me that there's no ports available. Do I have to configure something first?
