Hardware News   Hardware News : Terratec Phase28 supported
posted by DaveAE on 14-May-2005 21:00:02 (4179 reads)
The semi-professional sound card Phase28 from Terratec is now supported on OS4 by an AHI driver made by Davy Wentzler. The card has 2 inputs, 8 outputs, digital in/out and MIDI in/out (see here for more info).

In the AHI driver, everything is supported including MIDI and digital in and out, except using more than 2 analogue outputs. 4 outputs have been tested on a preliminary eXtream driver, however.

The audio controller (Envy24HT) and codec (WM8770) are the same as used on the Terratec Aureon 5.1 Sky and 7.1 Space. The 3 cards therefore share the same driver which will be released on OS4depot one of these days.

Thanks to Timo Kloss for lending me this card.

Yay, better peripherial support!

Nice going there Davey, OS4 really need as good as possible peripherial support to get it to become viable as a true replacement OS.

Was just looking at these cards at Komplett.se

What a nice surprise!

One question, are the midi channels supported in the Phase 28?

Okay, I'm lousy at reading news to the very end.

Guess which sound card I have to get now?

Wow!, Very cool.

Bundle this with a micro A1 & AE and you would have a nice little audio production machine.
I may have to consider this when OS4 comes out.

Nah, I don't want to bother them too much, since we're nobody. Sorry to be so realistic. I'm already more than pleased that I actually get technical info from them and I don't want to push them any further.

I just feel like I shouldn't and I'll leave it at that, at least for now.

Any chance of this also supporting the M-Audio Revlution 5.1 and 7.1 cards? I understand they use the same chip as the Terratec cards mentioned here.

I doubt they use the same codec (they probably use AKM, but I'm not sure) and secondly, the Envy24HT that is used has more than 20 general purpose IO pins (GPIO's) which are more than likely connected differently.
Even the Phase28 didn't work out of the box using the driver that I made for the Aureon cards and they even share almost the same GPIO's and codec.

Just send me a card and I'll write you a driver.
