Software News   Software News : M-Audio Revolution 7.1 supported
   posted by DaveAE on 22-Jun-2005 15:29:24 (7377 reads)
The high quality M-Audio Revolution 7.1 sound card is now supported on OS4 by an AHI driver made by Davy Wentzler. The card has 2 inputs, 8 outputs and a digital out. More information on the card can be found here.

The card will be supported by the Envy24HT driver which already supports the Terratec Aureon 5.1 Sky, 7.1 Space and Phase28. Although untested, it is to be expected that the M-Audio Revolution 5.1 will also work with the same driver.

Thanks to Bill Toner for supporting driver development for this card. The driver will be uploaded to OS4depot in the coming days.

Nice to see the list of cards supported is increasing, im thinking perhaps I should get me a better sound card now and perhaps a copy of Audio Evolution.
By the way is there much difference in quality between the SBlive and these new cards?

The AKM codecs are one of the best around. The SBlive has a simple cheap ac97 codec and the emu10kx always does sample rate conversion to 48kHz which is far from ideal.

Ofcourse it doesn't matter if you play mp3's or use cheap speakers.

Mines conneced to my sony Hifi but the quality of it doesnt seem as good as the terratec 512i on My A1200. Suppose I only use it for listening o mp3 at the moment, But AE is on my wish list for the near future and perhaps ill get a better card then.

@Curty

Nice to hear AE is on your wish list!
Btw, the Terratec 512i is also supported natively on the A1.

Hmm... Now which of these new sound cards is best for me?

What I want is a very low noise card, balanced line in and out, digital in and out, MIDI in and out, 16/44.1 or higher. I'd also want the card to be supported by eXtreme although the AHI driver will do for now.

P.S. Still waiting for my copy of AE4... man your distributor is bloody slow.

@ DaveAE

Good to hear of further soundcard support!

Will the manufacturers of this card list the driver on there webpages? I know it will be listed on OS4Depot.net in due course, but it would help advertise the amiga further if it was listed.

I would write an email but I'm about to go eat!

Daz

There is a WORLD of difference, at least for those of us with a good pair of ears and quality studio speakers.

Regards,
Trixie

@ssolie

The Phase28 sounds perfect for you. Check out German prices first before you buy, it can save you lots of cash!

Regarding AE4, please send me a private email.

Oh, and it's eXtream, not eXtreme..

@Step

eXtream is a new streaming system which includes a new audio system that I'm working on. There is an article about it in the latest Total Amiga magazine.

@Welshguy

If they list it, they need to support it and that's the last thing these companies want to do, spend time ( = money) on AmigaOS. If they would list it, they could get questions on their tech support line about it, which is not what we want right now. I'd prefer to be the only contact so it is kept low-profile. Perhaps if some manager finds out his people spend time on supporting the Amiga, he might as well pull the plug alltogether. I only have contact with Terratec and ESI/Egosys by the way. M-Audio hasn't replied yet.
