Software News   Software News : New Inutilis Horny 1.1 and Audio Evolution 4.0.8 now synchronizable
   posted by DaveAE on 5-Aug-2005 21:40:30 (4422 reads)
New versions of Horny (OS 4 native MIDI-sequencer) by Inutilis Software and Audio Evolution 4 (OS 4 native audio-sequencer) by Davy Wentzler have been released. Both are supporting the eXtream Sync library for synchronizing now, so MIDI and audio can be used for the same project. Pressing "play" in one application will start both at the identical position (same for all other transport functions, of course).

Inutilis Horny 1.1:
Screenshots and more information at http://www.inutilis.de/horny/index.html

- added eXtreamSync support for synchronizing with AudioEvolution 4 and other software
- muting individual sequences is possible now
- "Running Status" compression for SMF export implemented
- SysEx import/export with SMF
- SysEx loading/saving from SysEx Manager
- SysEx Manager: Number of Messages are shown in the group list
- "Set Loop around Sequence(s)" function added to "Sequence(s)" menu
- some chapters of manual translated to English (incomplete and old, sorry, but better than nothing??)
- added some instrument files (thanks to Daniel Jedlicka)
...more small changes and several bugfixes

Audio Evolution 4.0.8:
More information and downloads at http://www.audio-evolution.com

- supports eXtream Sync
- Many bug fixes including aux and mastering bugs
- Sample rates above 64 KHz are now possible
- Fixed licensing issues with OS4 update 3
- Added CAMD in/out selection requester

This is great news. We need this kind of stuff to have a profesional platform.
I know that this news means alot to me. My final project at school is from music production
and I'm so sorry that I can't do it on amiga. Sadly I still don't own one.

So in effect, these two can 'talk to' each other in a similar kind of way that CueBase & Logic can talk to each of=ther on a PC or Mac?

@Fuzion

I don't know how those programs 'talk' to each other. With eXtream Sync, when you press play in one program the other one starts as well, same for stop. Additionally, the time position is sent and some additional functionality allows for pre-loading before the actual start takes place.

@DaveAE

I haven't had chance to try these two out together yet but do you know if there are any plans to have more control between the two apps? For example, if Horny was to have a track that changed the modulation of a track in Audio Evolution?

Something like this could mean that Audio Evolution could act as a 'sampler' while Horny acts as the sequencer.

There are currently no plans, although this is an interesting idea. Thinking about it however, since AE4 can deal with MIDI remote events and transform them into automation events, it is perhaps possible to connect the CAMD out from Horny to the CAMD in of AE4? I don't know that much about CAMD (hehe, I ported it and wrote drivers but that's about it! ), but IIRC this is a possibility of CAMD. I have to think about this further and ask the CAMD guru's.

Hmmm,

I'll have to look into that. I haven't used CAMD at all to be honest as I don't have any MIDI units any longer but it's worth a look to see if Horny & AE can 'talk' through CAMD.

Audio Evolution has not the functionality of a sampler. I think, we would
need another application for it. Just a little app, that receives MIDI from
CAMD and plays sounds in correct pitch.

@Timo

HD-Rec has a lot of sample based effects, I know Thilo is working on HD-Rec. Does anyone know if Thilo has looked into eXtream?

This is something I'd like to see more of with the Amiga, apps being ablt to communicate with each other beyond ARexx.

In the DevContest 2005 projects there's something being developed called AMC (Amiga Media Centre), this could benefit from eXtream if our media players (MPlayer, AmigaAmp, Amplifier, Multiview, PicShow, SWFPlayer to name a few) could incorporate eXtream, then all of our media (pictures, vodeos, VOB's, mp3's etc...) could all be held in the AMC library, viewed/played by AMC & even controlled by AMC withg the help of exTream.

Of course, this would need the developers of each application to utilise the library but it would be bloomin' nice if they did.

Nobody can have looked into eXtream since it's not available. Well, only eXtream Sync, but that's only a small part of it.

Ok, I was just wondering beacuse I think eXtream has a LOT of potential. I'm looking forward to seeing more apps utilise it.

Well, actually, eXtream Sync is available, but it's actually something different than what eXtream itself is about. And the latter is not finished and has no SDK yet.
