Software News   Software News : E-UAE-0.8.28-RC2 released
posted by MikeB on 12-Aug-2005 14:17:54 (8900 reads)
From Richard Drummond's E-UAE homepage: "It's been a long time coming (mostly due to real life getting in the way), but here's a new version of E-UAE at last. Once again, this new version is faster (up to 30% better performance in the interpretative CPU emulation), more compatible (many fixes merged from WinUAE 1.0.0), and more bug-free"

See the README for more details and the ChangeLog for the full story.

Whoa, that speed increase sure is welcome! Have to try it immediately.

Downloaded already and it rocks! Although only the SDL-version, but i guess this new version of E-UAE was done with the SDL in mind When the full version of E-UAE 0.8.28 is out, both the E-UAE and the SDL-version will work!

Yes, it's much faster now

@Toaks

Try to run the SDL-version of E-UAE 0.8.28RC2 instead and see if it brings your OS3 into it with your .uarc config. I don't think the normal E-UAE program (supporting fullscreen) is working in the new version yet, cause this update probably at the moment only was done with the SDL-version in mind. I'm sure the final release of E-UAE 0.8.28 will have both the fullscreen and the SDL working...

Try the SDL and see what happens..

This should create a virtual volume AmigaOS3: on device DH0: and mount the host path HDs/AmigaOS3 relative to the current directory as that volume. Is that what you intended?

Which version did you download? Note, that there's only an SDL build of the new version for OS4.0 at the moment. Try running uae -version to check you're using the right one (it should say E-UAE 0.8.28-RC2).

Cheers,
Rich

README from Richard's website:
Quote:
AmigaOS (and clones)
--------------------
* Fixed virtual filesystem bug that broke mounting of a host path ending in
a ':' or a '/'.
* Faster start-up on OS4 on AmigaONE hardware (it's no longer ncessary to
perform timing calibration at start-up).
* High/true-colour rendering supported on AROS.
* AmigaOS graphics driver now works on OS4 update 3.
* Emulated SCSI device and hence CD32 emulation now work on OS4.0 (support
other Amiga-like OSes will follow).

CD32 support! Sweet!
Thanks for the great job you've done on this Richard - it's very much appreciated.

Don't get too excited yet. Unfortunately the speed sucks (that's not just a problem with the OS4.0 version, the Akiko emulation's performance is rubbish everywhere). I haven't tried to speed up this part of the code yet, though, and it may be possible that some optimizations can be made.

To be sure, this version can be set to fullscreen by pressing ctrl-alt-s.

Hmmm. Can you redirect E-UAE's output to a file (uae *>uae.log) and send that to me and include your config file, please.

Cheers,
Rich

Many Richard for your continuing work with E-UAE - looking forward to Catweasel drivers and playing the classic games with real joysticks!

I'm actually finding that this version runs slower than the old one. I have two uaerc files. One boots off a floppy and emulates an A500 with 1.3 roms and the other uses 2.0 roms.

I've been playing a game called Drip on the old version. On this current version it runs significantly slower while on the old version it ran at full speed.

I've switched back and forth a couple of times tonight and the slowdown is very noticable.
