Software News   Software News : E-UAE-0.8.28-RC2 released
   posted by MikeB on 12-Aug-2005 13:17:54 (8856 reads)
From Richard Drummond's E-UAE homepage: "It's been a long time coming (mostly due to real life getting in the way), but here's a new version of E-UAE at last. Once again, this new version is faster (up to 30% better performance in the interpretative CPU emulation), more compatible (many fixes merged from WinUAE 1.0.0), and more bug-free"

Ah, so the BSD Sockets work in the OS4 and/or Macintosh versions now right? If not then I don't care

Not on OS4.0 yet, but it's worked on OS X for a while, and works a whole better in this version (unless you have a G5 machine).

Does the SDL version support [ublic screens? I have only got it running in a window so far.

The SDL version will run in a window on your Workbench screen (you can't yet tell it to run on a different public screen) or in it's own custom screen (not public screen).

You can press Ctrl+Left Alt+S to switch between windowed and full-screen modes at run-time. Or you can use the config option

gfx_fullscreen_amiga=true
to make it default to opening in full-screen mode.

I can confirm the disk access being slow (on Amiga FFS)

@Toaks

Here's my ".uaerc" file that I use for my WHDGames:

Quote:
joyport0=kbd1
joyport1=kbd2

show_leds=false

cpu_type=68040
cpu_speed=real

chipset=aga
chipmem_size=4
fastmem_size=8

sound_output=exact
sound_interpol=crux
sound_frequency=44100
sound_bits=16

gfx_width_windowed=320
gfx_height_windowed=256
gfx_center_horizontal=true
gfx_center_vertical=true

I also have a config file for individual games, in SlamTilts case I have added (Mainly for the resolution in this case):

Quote:
filesystem2=rw,DH1:Games:SlamTilt_Files,0
filesystem2=rw,DH0:Workbench:UAE:WorkbenchFS,0

joyport1=joy1

gfx_width_windowed=640
gfx_height_windowed=512
gfx_center_horizontal=true
gfx_center_vertical=true

In Low Res, the game seems to run at the same speed as the previous version of UAE I was using (0.8.27 I think), in Hi Res, the game runs just as smooth until the screen scrolls & when the menu whites out when starting a game, then it slows down (About 60-70% of the original speed).

Disk access is certainly slower when using 'Filesystems'. I can't compare ADF's because I haven't been using them.

Generally speaking, GFX seems to be faster.

I've written in the commands in the .uarc config file for running the SDL-version in fullscreen, accessing the Picasso96-settings, and it works, but there is a problem. Since the SDL-version actually is supposed to run in a window, many of the hotkeys-features from the E-UAE itself are lacking.

For instance, there is no way to get out of the SDL-version unless you have to do a hard-reset. I wonder if you know how to get out of the SDL-E-UAE program when it's running fullscreen, since the hotkey CTRL + ALT + Q are not working in this version of E-UAE..

@Helgis

I haven't notices any problems this end. eg. LCtrl+LAlt+Q quits this version E-UAE SDL from both window & full screen mode.

Are you using the left Ctrl & Alt keys? Also, I don't know if this is still the case, but you used to have to press the keys in that order too: 'LCtrl' then 'LAlt' then 'Q'.

See how you go with those. If you still have problems... I'm lost

The keys LCtrl + LAlt and Q in SDL-version of E-UAE doesn't quit it even it's in fullscreen. In fact, it doesn't do anything at all..

SDL means it's a window-version of E-UAE. That's why we have SDL-version as an alternative...

When using the normal E-UAE (that was the case with version 0.8.27), these keys Ctrl + Alt + Q actually ended E-UAE as supposed to!

That's odd, can use LCtrl+LAlt+S to flick from Window to Fullscreen as well as LCtrl+LAlt+Q to quit from either Window mode or Fullscreen.

This is with the 0.8.28-RC the SDL version. Hope you find a solution.

I tried again, but it doesn't work within the SDL-version. If this was the normal E-UAE (even the 0.8.28 version), i can swear it would work..

I have chosen to run SDL in window mode by default in order to quit it by clicking on the left button on its' window..

Can anyone please point me in the right direction on how to use the A1's CD-rom fron inside UAE.

I've been trying the whole weekend, and tried to find anything in the docs or on the net, but I can't find anything.
I know there was a article somewhere, wivh mentioned this.

edit: I recall it correctly it has something to do with putting uaescsi.device in the uaeconfig file... But how exactly ?

Thanks,

Martin

Thanks for all your work on E-UAE, Richard.

I have been using version 0.8.27 under AmigaOS4.0 pre-release update 3 on my µA1-C for a little while now. Works great in full-screen mode. Very nice emulation of my Amiga 2000HD and AmigaOS 3.1. When I tried using it in window mode, I could never figure out how to control the mouse pointer inside the window.

E-UAE-0.8.28-RC2 is slower to boot, but the display is very crisp in both window mode and fullscreen mode. Once it is booted up, it seems quite fast. Now I can control the pointer in window mode.

Once again, a very nice emulation of my Amiga 2000HD and AmigaOS 3.1

SDL do not mean it's Window mode, SDL is full featured GFX library like Picasso96 or Cybergraphis, SDL means the program using SDL is easy to convert from one OS to an other.

if your using an OLD version it's F12 + Q and F12 + R, if not it's maybe some thing you added in the config file?
or your configured your keyboard wrong!

I found an older E-uae doc, stating that scsi is not supported for E-UAE-AmigaOS.... Is it in the new version still not supported ?
How do I get to use the CD-rom then ?

Thanks

Martin

CD32 support! Sweet!

Don't get too excited yet. Unfortunately the speed sucks (that's not just a problem with the OS4.0 version, the Akiko emulation's performance is rubbish everywhere).

End Quote

Not that many CD32 titles used Akiko did they?

discreetFX:

Akiko is the name of the emulator for cd32 on pc.
(specific cd32 emulator so that the user wont have to hastle with the general winuae stuff etc)

good name for a emu of the console imo.

anyway i might be wrong ;)

@Toaks

Akiko is also the name of the chip that does C2P conversion on the CD32.

That's odd.

I'm not quite sure how you infer that.

The SDL version is actually more complete than the version which uses P96/CGX natively. That's why I provide an SDL build. It's a stop-gap until I've finished re-working the native graphics driver. The SDL version does indeed work in full-screen and windowed modes.

Rich

I already answered MetalHeart via emai, but just in-case anybody else is confused...

The SCSI emulation provides an emulated SCSI driver which lets you access the host machine's CD-ROM/DVD drives within the emulation. It creates a fake device driver uaescsi.device via which your CD drives are accessible. The first drive will be unit 0, the second unit 1, etc.

To enable the SCSI emulation, add scsi=true to your config file.

To use any CD devices within Workbench on E-UAE, you need to install a CD filesystem (e.g. CacheCDFS, AmiCDFS, etc) on your emulated environment and create mountlists for any devices you want to access, pointing them to uaescsi.device and the relevant unit numbers.

The CD32 emulation also requires that you set scsi=true and that you use CD32 ROM images (these are available from Cloanto if you don't have a CD32).

Cheers,
Rich

If you mean the chunky-to-planar converter in the Akiko, then, AFAIK, you're right. However, the Akiko chip also provided the CD-ROM interface and the interface to the nonvolatile memory.

I haven't done a great deal of testing yet, but so far the performance has proved poor (e.g., the CD32 version of Zool2 on an A1 is almost unplayable - mind you it, takes a fairly beefy PC to make it playable). This is something that I need to investigate.

Cheers,
Rich
