| What hardware abstraction layer is that? Quark microkernal? I don't mind the OpenFirmware bit but where do they get that HAL? Doesn't AmigaOS 4 already have a HAL? Why would we need theirs? |

| Ugh in my opinion this is *not* news worthy. I do not consider a quote from a blog to be news worthy at all.
Its just yet more random nonsense from BBRV... _________________ Regards Darren 'Ryu' Glenn ---------------------------- www.IntuitionBase.com - Your Guide to Amiga OS4.x and the AmigaOne www.Bambi-Amiga.co.uk - My A1200 webserver, running 24/7/365

| oops, in my haste to spread the news, I left out an important piece of information..
Quote:
In return, we ask that our hardware abstraction layer and Open Firmware implementation (HAL/OF) be licensed. We seek to maintain compatibility across the platform worldwide and there does need to be some governance at the foundational level to keep everything organized. We hope it will be the first Free/Libre and Open Source Hardware (FLOSH) platform. We will probably do this under the GPL and we will start with the PegasosPPC and/or the EFIKA 5K2 board (EFIKA video divx, mp4). Note latest EFIKA revision: the PCI slot is now AGP. |
I was more focussed on a potential new os4 platform, rather than discussing genesi's full plans.. sorry |

| "keep everything organized" and "BBRV" is a pure contradiction. I consider this another blabla like the big STB customer, the eclipse, the guaridan and all the rest, that I already have forgotten. PS: Is this a coincidence: KOSH < ~ > FLOSH BBRV is very good in making Fleecy Moss big concurrence in talking about "plans". Last edited by _PAB_ on 12-Nov-2005 at 11:38 PM. That sort of reminds me of the terms for an AOne license! The one Genesi, among others, considered "over the top"?

| ...it is not surprising some of you would think along these lines.
We will be back next week. We will post some information as soon as we can that you will understand.
The HAL/OF license may not cost a pfenning. We do not know yet.
In any case, we hope you can make the most of it, because in the end success or failure will be *completely* in your hands - and your hands alone.
Best wishes for a pleasant weekend.
Kind regards,

The objective is to commoditize the client side of the equation and spawn a PowerPC clone market. |
Ummm. Is this a bad thing?
Is there a big difference between licensing the A1 design and getting an OS4 license, and licensing the Pegasos design and getting an OS4 license?
Or are we just against BBRV making money from Amiga out of principal?
Of course he wants everything to remain the same on the boards created under license so that any potential Amiga port will also run on Pegs.
Accuse BBRV of being full of vapor all you want, but last I heard there is (arguably superior)PPC hardware coming off the production line, there has for a long time, and it looks like there will be for some time to come.
The same cannot be said about any AmigaOS related boards right now.
AmigaInc and Hyperion may need to take this route out of necessity some day.
Ok. Going back to my happy place now. We have no weiners!!! Let's learn to make pizzas. _________________ Leo Nigro, CTO Commodore USA, LLC Opinions expressed are my own and not those of C= USA. Commodore/AMIGA "Beautiful, High-Performance, Home Computers for Creativity and Entertainment."

I have made no comment on the good or bad of this at all!
It was more of a question of irony!

I see hardly any difference at all. Hence the irony!

BBRV can make all the money he wants. In my opinion however, if he wants to make money on something that is trademarked then I hope he pays the royalties everyone else is expected to pay!

Anyone taking the time, expense, challenge and risk of starting a niche market and then licensing it would want a bit of control. Shame on Amiga Inc. for trying the same.

| the Efrika looks nice and is along the lines of something I thought about building after reading about that chip.
PPC core with everything needed for a system built in. low clock speed by current PC standards but more than fast enought for linux, Morph or AOS4.
Wonder why we never heard of that Efrika board before now. looks sweet as it sould cost under $200 BTW AGP or PCI on that chips bus is really more about marketing than performance.
all in all should be a fun board to play with.
PCI would actually make more sense from a bussiness stand point as imbedded systems really don't need a fancy graphics display. A simple LCD or serial display with an A/D or other PCI based controller board installed makes more sense actually. by putting an AGP instead of a PCI port on the little guy you are actually limiting its usefulness as a system and its sales potential as a result.

I'm thinking along the lines of those who claimed to be no longer interested in the Amiga market becoming interested again.
Wonder why?Last edited by amigacooke on 13-Nov-2005 at 11:35 AM.

Ah, I see they've started shifting blame in advance this time. Then it can't possibly be because of their own incompetence if/when it fails this time.
How's that PDA coming along? |

If you haven't noticed, Eclipsis handheld was canceled very long time ago. Better look at this board instead http://www.pegasosppc.com/gallery.php?id=128
It seems intelligense is with quiet ones. Useless trolling as if Genesi themselves posted this news item. If thoughts in that blog touch this part of community, then discuss that part, not moan uselessly around, it looks mighty dumb. No one is pushing anything into your throat. Think what you all could gain from this.
By posting this news item here you all invited BBRV to write something here (-; |

no need to apologize. . . really
Although, when you read something bbrv related, you have to think ALWAYS about his/theyr "hidden/through the lines" statements. _________________
