Why are most games for MorphOS only?

Easy, hardware availability and most of all Genesi's and Freescale's generous
developer programs.

This has nothing to do with MorphOS beeing better than AOS4 or vice versa.

Genesi and Freescale have donated hundreds of ODW's to software developers.
I have not heard of a single person getting any free AmigaONE to port or develop
any game on. So why do you act so surprised when most games are for MOS?

The people behind this voting generalized AmigaOS, MorphOS and AROS as Amiga.
It's their rules, not yours. If you have problems with it - just ignore it.

If it doesn't run under AmigaOS it should not be called an Amiga game

It runs on an Amiga and then can be on the Amiga Game Award, matters had been completly different if it had been AmigaOS4 Game Award, or if it had been AmigaOS Game Award, then all games not running on AmigaOS <=3.9 would be disqualified.

Proves beyond the shadow of a doubt how SLOW MorphOS is compared to OS4.

How much did you smoke?

The purpose of the list is very clear they are nether Amiga games nor is it meant to highlight Amiga games just a tatical manuever by the blue bennies who wanted to highlight software that only runs under MorphOS .

As far as I know, the votes was made by "members" of the Amiga Community, it's nothing you or me are in command of who belongs to this exclusive group, but both we seem to think we belong to it. At least I know that I don't want to exclude anyone from this community.

It is strong evidence that they are still a bitter and VERY partesan group.

IMHO what destroys the community is thickheade people who comes with really lousy comments about others in the community, for each day that the troll-war continues you are keeping killing the community which already is quite x86 based.

True...

Another solution, set up a voting of your own, where you decide the rules.

Storm in a tea-cup.

@ itix

Does Descent 2 really work under AmigaOS 3.x(68k) or AmigaOS4(PPC native)?

If so where to get the piece of software????

Chip:
"That doesn't mean it doesn't happened at all..."

If anyone actually got any A1 for free, why would it be a secret?

It's very much good-will from Eyetech's side to donate systems for
development. That is one of the things you use in marketing..

However.. We all know the marketing principles in the Amiga World;
- do nothing, say nothing, pay nothing.

To get back on topic.. Anything else to say?

Why even bother mentioning Eyetech?

Thanks to Mr "I pretend i know everything" Redhouse, OS4 is hardwareless and people that want to use OS4 (myself included) cannot due to that mans silliness.

Hopefully Hyperion can turn it around for the better.

Well it is not a secret. Eyetech has not given out free developer machines like Genesi did. Genesi got both Freescale and IBM in their back that is a good thing.. but Eyetech maybe got big industrial partners in china.. Eyetech is a big lier thay said it would come machines and it didn't. I think the eyetech days are over..

I know of an A1 given by Hyperion to the author of Bars 'n Pipes:

http://amigaworld.net/modules/news/article.php?storyid=2750

Don't know if there have been other A1s given for free to developers. (Anyway, this is going offtopic now).

Just for completeness: voting was announced at Amiga.org. Couldnt find related news from AWN, MZ or ANN but it was announced at morphos-news.de and amiga-news.de.

The lack of any news/forum posts surrounding this event were solely down to nobody seeing fit to start a thread on it, or submit a news article on the matter. As is always the case, much of the news is submitted by members rather than staff, and equally we rely on our members to bring these things to other users attentions if they feel it warrants it.

@zErec

OS4 screenshots.

Steffen Haeuser gave up because of lack of time and one of Friedens ported it again but wasnt released because of bugs. Undertandable: there are two MorphOS ports and both had issues.

@thread:
The thing that should be noted though, is that even for those games that in its direct form aren't available on AmigaOS, can be realistically made available for it without ripping out a leg or two of the fevoloper in the process...

Battle of Wesnoth got 10th place still and it is sort of 'OS4 only' game.

Looking by game releases in the last year should this list look different?

No, it isn't. MorphOS games can simply be recompiled for OS4, due to the common 3.1 API, most of the time. There's absolutely no common thing between the PS and XBox, they are two totally unrelated platforms.

Well AmigaOS4 native programs don’t use the 3.1 Jump table, the 680x0 JMP instruction is of no use on PPC programs

@itix

I don’t know how well MorphOS / Quake3 runs on classic Amiga computer, I don’t think it’s where playable

Anyway Linux games runs on Amiga hardware too, so do this mean that Linux games are Amiga games too?

I nothing against top 10 games of the year list, just keep in mind, that users of an OS like know what works on there system, and like to know what’s best for there system, what’s runs on MorphOS have no use for me or any one else how own an AmigaOne /AmigaOS4 or Classic / AmigaOS3.x, I think this games need to support the Classic OS3 platform or New AmigaOS4 to be called an Amiga game. If you like your games to work on OS3/OS4 you can always recompile the games for WarpUP I bet you get more sales to AmigaOS 3 & 4 users that way too nothing wrong about that

We'd better refrain from defining what is an Amiga game, and what is not, as it may differ with each of us. Some would argue that AmigaOSXL is Amiga just as well, while others will argue that OS4 is not Amiga for them. Honestly, let the decision rest with the maintainers of the Amiga Games Award. Like it or not.

@ironfist

Eyetech never gave away any A1. but Hyperion have loaned out as many as they can to developers. Not the same giving away I know, but the end result is the same.

chainQ has aslo got an A1, I believe this has been lent/donated by another. Hope I'm not wrong on this.

But yes you're right Genesi did give away a lot of Pegs to Developers as well as some pretend developers.

I wouldn't be suprised if many of the MorphOS ports have been done by devs who paid for their machines anyway. I'll probably get deluged by devs who say they didn't now.

And who said anything about the 68k jump table? I said the 3.1 API, not the 3.1 ABI and library system. AmigaOS4 **IS** compatible with the 3.1 API, as is MorphOS, in
that applications that use it can be compiled for either with minimal or no changes.

@ ironfist and bluetroll

Was that necessary? The previous page is full of my warnings. I have to go to work now so I cannot moderate the two trollish posts (as well as the others that have followed). I hope to see some change in the content of all those sort of posts by the time I have come back...

Consider both yourselves warned.
