Software News   Software News : Digital Almanac III is FREEWARE!
   posted by Anonymous on 3-Mar-2006 19:52:50 (4297 reads)
Achim Stegemann has made his well-known astronomy software "Digital Almanac III" freeware.

Read more:

After leaving the Amiga community in early 2005 Achim Stegemann now presents his astronomy software to the community:

Fairly good translation follows

from the Digital Almanac website:

My present to the Amiga community!

The latest CD-Version of Digital Almanac III is available on Aminet

Attention! The size is approx. 400 MB!
To Download just follow the above link!

Notes:

o Please read the readme-file!
o Due to the fact the sourcecode of this version is from the year 2003, some errors have been accumulated with some data from the net, especially the asteroids-data format has changed. Therefore the import of those data isn't possible anymore. Coder that are seriously interested in enhancing and porting this software should get in touch with me. eMail address in the Aminet-readme.
o Otherwise every support from me has been cancelled for this product. The source code is available on Aminet, too.
o A complete list of all Digital Almanac products on Aminet is reachable via this link.

Remark:
There is a little error that made it in the Aminet name.
The version there is NOT 5.7, it's 5.6, the update to 5.7 is available from the above link, too.
(Errare humanum est! - Damn, what the right translation for that in english?)

There seems to be a version mismatch, it should say:

"The version there is NOT 5.6, it's 5.5, the update to 5.6 is available from the above link, too."

Saluditos,

Ferrán.

@wegster

[ URL ] tags, at least the buttons, are not working with AWeb, yet.
But i'll try to remember with the next news item, sorry

@Ferry

Yup, mixed them, sorry again

@all

I tried it under OS4, starts but says "Astro.font" is defective at some glyph
and then freezes after the milkyway should have been drawn.

There's a FAQ on Achims webstie covering this problem too:

It says something about a bug in the math-libs and that one should either
install the "math-libs-patch" from the mcp package or replace the math libs
with 3rd-party ones. Didn't try that, though.

I guess the challenge now is to get this workign under OS4.
Not meaning to be rude, by why leave the community in 2005 - wait 10 years and then just as its all happening bugs out!

Rude!

Hello,

The WOS version crashes here (DSI Error even if ignoring them).

IIRC you need to resave the font with a fonteditor like TypeFace (Aminet) to fix the defective glyphs. Concerning the crash, you should use the 68020 version of DA3.

@ Tuxedo

I'm currently trying to get an os4 native version running.

Hi,

> Will it run on the A1?

Not here, I downloaded it yesterday.

First probem is some font error and after that I get a requester with a MUI error "MUIE_OK" and then nothing else happens.

I did find that v2 of DA tended to crash on my Classic Amiga. It seems as if v3 is just as flaky (at least on OS4)

I think I'll stick with Digital Universe.

Bill.

Ok, after finally getting around to installing diskimage (niiice app!) i installed DA3. After fixing the font issue, both the 060+PPC version and the 040 version starts and runs fine here, but they have gfx glitches. When you move around that 'stop'(?) thingie it leaves trails. It seens it doesn't update it's screen.
