posted by Mangaclub on 30-Apr-2006 15:00:56 (8004 reads)
Tomasz Wiszkowski released a brand new extra Programm for Fryingpan.
It Copy/burns/saves DVD/CDs.

DEMO LIMITATION

For users who have not registered the software by now - the only limitation
implies corrupting recorded data at random positions. No speed or other
limits have been introduced.

Registered users of Fryingpan can use it without Problems.

I think your program rules. It's on my list of Amiga stuff to buy (and probably of plenty more users) but you know how things are in the Amiga scene: slow! One of these days I'll end up registering...

Cheers

heh indeed. why? because this platform is not considered for commercial software and very few people decide to make business on it. if i wanted to keep up only from writing the software for amiga platform i would need to raise my pricing alot.. until then i still need to take care of daily stuff, work and university (hopefully the last one not for long)... pity i still need to write my masters work

cheers.

Tom:

I really appreciate the disc copy tool, I'll download it now and test it tomorrow. Thank you for continuing to develop for the Amiga market, even though it is small and often very demanding. You are certainly "between a rock and a hard place" when it comes to making a demo: too many limitations and prospective users complain, too few limitations and it becomes freeware.

I guess the best thing that we registered users can do is list what we have so others know it works:

Hardware: A1XEG4, Pioneer DVR-109 (also called A09, I think) firmware rev 1.58
File Systems: AFFS, SFS 1.252 (now I have 1.255)
- FryingPan: Tested with DVD+R, DVD+R/W
- CoFFE: Test DVD+R copy works in home DVD player
(But it caused a GR visit at termination.)

Wishing you the best in your software develoment,
        JCC

@Samwel

Thanks, I'll update it now. (That was a nice side-benefit of trying help others by listing my system specs.)

Hows the OS4 native version of Frying Pan coming along?

The new one time 25 euro registration is fair IMO. I think a lot of people will be very happy with that!

I get a lot of use out of your program even today. Thank you very much for your work.

I think the notification is only available when you start a thread. I can't find it on replies.

Welcome Tom,

Well, all I can say is that everything that you have done has been perfect (well, for beta stage that it's up to).

To everyone else (well, alot anyway), come on, after spending hundreds of Euros/Dollars on your A1 25 Euros is nothing. Especially for such great software with loads of promise.

Tom has come a long way for such a short period of time, and development is still going on. I also registered MakeCD, it has been in development for far longer that FP and still doesn't support DVDs or have half the features of FP.

25 Euros is not much to ask to help Tom make the many improvements he wants to.
Ok, sorry, off the soap box now.

Ciao,
Trev Daley.

All of your suggestions have problems:
1. How many CDs do you have that are less than 100MB, and what about DVDs which is the main point?
2. How often do you want to copy a CD/DVD? Once in a while? Then that would make his program demo fully functional!
3. I really really hate nag requesters, especially looong ones. I might not even bother to try the software with such a limitation. While others might go make a cup of coffee, and then use the demo as the full program.
4. Anything linked to the system clock is easily worked-around. And it's pretty useless for testing it's ability to copy DVDs!

Try thinking a little longer than 5 minutes

Um, it's a crippled demo version - it's supposed to be annoying

My point was, there are better ways of nagging your users into paying than corrupting data, especially since there are still quite a few incompatible CD/DVD writers that will corrupting data even if you buy the registered version - because the corruption comes from the writer, not the demo "encouragement" code. I simply suggested other ways that I've seen used before, which presumably have worked for their authors.

@error

Hi I fixed the problem I had myself so no need for an email.
It seems when I updated I forgot to update the main exe somehow..

I have even tried burning for the first time.
Worked well but I had some troubles to get it going. I changed options
and I pressed the write button on the write page several times and
suddenly it just started burning without giving me any error messages
on what I had done wrong before or if I really wanted to start burning
in the first place.

You have some work to do with this stuff IMHO.
It's much more user friendly than MakeCD but you have a bit to go
compared to the Windows burner programs.

Maybe I'll see you on MSN someday and we can talk about these things
more in detail?

At the same point the Mos and AROS versions are... FP is still in development and contains bugs and is unfinished (features) it will be declined in various AmigaOS flavours/MorphOS/AROS when entering in final stage...

as you can see, CoFFE is in prerelease and is available in 4 versions... just be patient...

BTW Why is the release for AmigaOS4 soooo big (445kb) compared to AOS3/MOS/AROS (200kb +- 15kb) ??????

btw. usually demo versions of software meant to create documents does not include saving. so maybe this is really it? I should disable recording discs entirely. this way you will have a PURE look at if coffe / fryingpan / whatever comes next will support your drive at all.. I think the idea is brilliant.

There's usually a "simulate only" checkbox in burning programs, why not simply have that turned on at all times for the demo version? Perhaps you could actually send the commands to the drive but without actually turning on the laser? I don't know how this works, but that would at least let the user know if his/hers drive is supported or not etc.
Maybe that even gives an impression of how fast data can be written?

Anyway, than's a lot for your support. Please keep at it.

@falcon1

Mostly due to wrong parameters in GCC or use of clib2 instead of newlib.
Can be many things. He who compiles the native OS4 version should contact
someone that knows OS4 good. IntuitionBase might be a good place.

i am abit confused, i regged my drive(s) in former Fryingpan versions and i wonder, should i re register or ? (the new 25 quid deal) , anyway if i don't need to re register i would like to spit the money in anyway (via paypal as before).

some more information would be great and ofcourse the paypal address i should use (i used kicko's one earlier, is that still valid?)

cheers
