It Copy/burns/saves DVD/CDs.

My point was, there are better ways of nagging your users into paying than corrupting data

so - if i understand correctly - i should make a release of totally enabled software and count on your generosity? heheehe that would be something..

you see, first fp ever (0.01) was actually audioware. i just asked for a few mp3s or audio tracks as a feedback. after 18 months all i got was 6 cds.

dont get me wrong pal, i do understand your concerns. but nobody registers unless he is made to register.

cheers,
tom.

hehe you are welcome to send me instants any time except when i am in 'dnd' - i'm usually at work that time.. just tell me it is you heheh.

out of fun facts: i started receiving a quite a few messages on my IM daily; most of these guys had their global profile empty (no name, no surname, no nick, nothing), so i just asked: "hi! and who am i talking to?" - the usual response was: "me"..

heheh..

Hows the OS4 native version of Frying Pan coming along?

I will base it at least partially on CoFFE engine so if there are any problems with CF please let me know asap.

i have the fundamentals of ISO Builder (in fact it does even construct plain ISO images) ready for all operating systems but i will need to suspend my work a bit or at least slow it down (i need to write my masters work and sit engineers and masters degree exams).

new fp (1.0) should come out this year but i hope it will be available before september. btw, i am not going to port the 0.4 code to it, i'm not sure it'd ever work (too much 68k/os3x tricks embedded)

cheers,
tom

BTW Why is the release for AmigaOS4 soooo big (445kb) compared to AOS3/MOS/AROS (200kb +- 15kb)

honestly - i have no idea. the C++ compiler adds a lot of extra code to handle its own issues (if i could decide on that, i'd have dropped 85% of its extraneous code). basically other releases were almost of the same size until i made it to optimize it (well i dropped about 200kb from os3 and mos distribution and about 60k from aros version), drop specific functions and skip intializers. if i discover some option to optimize the os4 code as well to the acceptable size and it works - next releases will be smaller

my biggest problem on os4 is that its initialization code refers to C malloc() and C open() - these pull a lot of other strings, thus forcing inclusion of at least 100kB of code that i do not want to use...

cheers,
tom

There's usually a "simulate only" checkbox in burning programs

for CDs only. There is no such option for most of the DVD media, ESPECIALLY not for media that are not targeted for sequential write (=formatted DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD+R, DVD-RAM and deriving), in other words you can enable test mode only for DVD-R and making a limitation for the above would cause another screams on your side "hey! what a stupid demo limit! if it doesn't burn dvd+r, dvd+rw, dvd-rw, dvd-ram -- how can i tell the full version will?"

don't you think?

Cheers,
Tom

No need to. Your key worked with 0.3, works with 0.4 and will work with 1.0; btw, with FP 0.4c your key enables all your recorders, too.

Cheers,
Tom.

(i assume you read my previous post that you dont need to re-register fp heheh)

well as paypal in poland can be used only for sending money (works one way only) my friends agreed to support me on that. You can contact one of them:
- Laurent Zorawski [faranheit (at) wanadoo, fr]
- Krister Skrtic [transplant (at) home, se]

error: yes i read it, but as it also said..i want to support you so (donation), thanks for the info.

as for file size , this is because you use Clib2 , switch to newlib to make the size of the file smaller.

Thanks for the tip, maybe i get it compiled for all the platforms (eventually there is a stub version of clib, dont remember the name, but it was something like few kilobytes compiled for linux). thanks for reminding me!!!!! this may actually save me a lot of trouble (especially with this dull malloc())

cheers

@Toaks
Your too kind. You dont have to but then my email is still valid as both error and voodoo said.

@Error
Thanks for the continuing on the best burning package for my amiga :)
I remember when i had problems with my plextor burner on a4000 with powerflyer. Both Makecd/Burnit failed to make it work. You fixed FP to work with it. That was the best news and gift that time. Also thanks Makecd/Burnit authors specially for trying.

@All
You can always use Rewritable CD/DVD's to test with. It will probably be corrupted but then youll see if it works at least. Just to rewrite again.
I use always rewritable. Write once i record for friends and when sending audio to folks that bought some music from me. If there is any burner people wonders if it works just write on the mailing list or maybe a list is made of which burners are registered to work. Dunno.

Error thanks again.

I think I can see how the author is spreading the word about his program now

From the beginning, the registration procedure for Frying Pan caused a LOT of noise & therefore a lot of publicity (Within the community at least) & it seems that trend is to continue. Give the Amiga community a reason to dislike & shout & Frying Pan gets itself a new wave of "interest".

The corrupt data thing doesn't work for me.

It's always been said that bad publicity is good publicity. Is this man very clever or very stupid? I'll leave that one for yourselves to decide. I've made my decision

(I'm still not registering though).

FuZion.

@FuZion

Why not register? It's the only burner application doing DVD we're likely to see
get native updates for a loooong time. I think every user should support it.
IMHO of course

Btw I have forgot to ask you one thing.

Now that you've changed the registration to application rather than device. How
does FP/CF react if I update the firmware or change burner with the current
keyfile?

I know what you mean, and I was a bit harsh in my comments before - sorry about that. My problem with the solution you chose is that (unless the "corruption" is something predictable like the string "register now"), it's really hard to tell if some corruption I got was from my burner not being 100% supported, vs the "nag" corruption.

it will work just fine.

btw, it has never been an issue to upgrade key for new firmware ;). and i have even made several such upgrades.

I am looking forward to hearing your suggestion about "good" demo limitation (you have one day).

now: if you dont have a clue what is a demo limitation then please do be so kind and drop the subject. otherwise, if your demo protection will be so awesome as you are claiming, i will consider putting it in, then redirect all blaming guys directly to you so you can hear how much your protection suck.

cheers,
tom.

ps. it has nothing to do with you being unregistered - in fact i even like that you stand aside, at least i have a few concerns less. like with the other man who keeps overburning his dvds and spams me that his very-last-files are unreadable. and there is no such force on earth that will make him understand that he is overburning dvds. you two have very much in common.

if you burn an audio CD you will hear that the sound is silenced a few times every second (about 4 iirc), but otherwise everything is cool.

@Samwel

My reason is simple: the program crashes an awful lot of time and I dislike the registration method (which I guess was changed recently).
The reason for the crash eludes, but let me say that Frying Pan caused some of the worst crashes on my Amiga usage, both on OS4 and OS3.9.Loss of data, re-formatting HDs and plain lockups(most not allowing soft reboot).
It may be my system, but since it works very well with most apps, I decided to stay clear of FP.
And,believe me, I did so without pleasure, since the program looks very good and seems very powerful, too.

The demo limitation is decided by the maker, obviously, but the user has the right to dislike it.
