Excellent news.

For an "outside" company to enquire about coding/porting such "Niche" hardware/software for our "niche" platform bodes well.

Thanks for the info, Fleecy.

Interesting stuff. Perhaps it would be an idea to focus on
questions relating to issues closer in time for the next batch
of Q&A though ...

I'm not sure the list of AOne supported hardware (I got
another question posted! ) fleecy referred to is AOS4-
certified, though? I thought that list only was input from the
AOne users, not from AOS4 beta testers ...

I thought the questions (and answers) were good.

@Derfs

I agree the new mags sound good, as does the new amiga power website!

This was a pleasant surprise, I didn't think the the answers were due until next Sunday. Anyway, glad to see my PDA question answered positively, I am currently working hard trying to convince myself I should get a PocketPC . It's good to know that synchronization software is planned.

i also have to say this...

while i think that this is a very good idea, and that fleecy answers the questions as well as anyone can expect, i believe the questions chosen could have been better.

there is nothing there that is troubling in any way, there is no effort to get to any roots of any problems, there is no question that any person against AInc can read and go 'hey, wait a mo, maybe i was wrong'.

i really do feel some harder hitting questions need to be asked on some topics that everyone wants to know about.

this is, of course, just IMHO....

All interesting answers.

What exactly is "Amiga Generation 2", though? Is it the DE (ie OS5) or something else?

I agree. From the first 2 QA's, i learned nothing.

I'm sorry, but i don't get excited from "we have been contacted last week by a company ... blabla... too early...". And i don't get excited anymore from any announcement. Been there, done that (too much).

You've got to keep one thing in mind. These guys hold the Amiga name and "future" (whatever that may be). They bought the name of probably the finest most legendary computer ever. And i've got a feeling that they are destroying the last changes we had for the platform.

Where can we put questions for round 3. It's time for some real questions.

Yes, there is definately a community interest in getting the
answers to some of the more (for AInc) troublesome
questions. Would perhaps end the ever-returning accusations
of this site only feeding fleecy with "nice" questions too.

If there is a question fleecy don't want to answer, he'll just
post "no comment". No problems there. Just keep the
questions clear and objective and the subject can be as
controversal as needed.

True, but there is no point asking questions you already know he won't answer

You are free to ask whatever question you want. The sole conditions are that your question should be formulated in a reasonable and polite manner.

The AmigaWorld staff is entirely free to select any questions, but that does not mean Fleecy will always be able to answer each and every question, as Amiga Inc is a company.

Though I am confident that Fleecy will do his best to answer all questions as correctly and complete as humanly possible.

If you read nonesense at other rival websites from people supporting rival platforms, I would advise to ignore them. For instance there are stupid claims that I personally make sure that "easy" questions are being asked. FYI I have only selected 1 of the 10 questions (The question asked by The_Editor) and there are 6 other people running this website. IMO we have an excellent *team*.

As soon as I get my new Axim and I play a bit with it I will let you know how it does, maybe post a mini review :)

(On tougher questions)

I agree on that.

although you quoted me, i do not think that there has been no information that has been interesting and good to learn, its just because some people will criticise the 'easy' questions we need something a bit tougher if only its one question a week.

@amigammc:

Thanks, that will be helpful. I'll do some thinking in the meantime. I came quite close to buying it today, but then I decided to give it some time. I need to find out how much I really need/want it. I don't want it to be one of those things which you use for two weeks, and then can't be arsed to turn on.

@Kay

I hope the unit I get will work smoothly with no hardware defects. So far I haven't seen a single positive comment about Dell's customer service. Everybody describes it as a living nightmare. I regret not having paid the PDA with my amex card, it would have been much easier to get a refund if there was a problem.
The reason why i got it now is that the $50 rebate ends March30th and on top of that they throw an additional 10% off.

Well, once again, I think the questions (and answers) were well balanced. A couple of those left room for more answers. And, of course, there is room for some tougher questions, as long as they are asked properly.

Nice to hear about the new Amiga Power Platform website (CAM members will recognize this term) as well as the reference to the OS4 adverts. I still want to know why DE will not be available for OS4 until version 4.2? I thought that once a platform was targeted, DE could be running on it within a very short time.

DaveyD: Have you considered porting an open source browser such as mozilla to AOS and if so, will it be included with AOS?

Fleecy: We have been looking on with interest at the path followed by Apple with Safari, their new browser and will most likely follow a similar path. We need to consider this though against the wider picture of what goes in an OS and what is/should be provided by third parties

A browser should definately be part of any OS distribution these days. I hope AInc do follow Apples example.

Video editing etc for OS4 would also be cool.

To port DE you need a finalized platform to port to first of all, secondly there are some issues that need to get sorted out before the DE on AOS is ready for release.
