AFA OS 3.94

Add new features for truetype Fonts

In afa prefs are new sliders for "font size adjust" and "line space hack"
http://amidevcpp.amiga-world.de/afaupload.php

What they do:

Read more (mod note)

"font size adjust"

This increase/decrease the fontsize by a choosen value.
for example when set to +2.apps that open a font with size 12 get now size 14.
So its possible to change easy the fontsize of all Apps, for example when you want run same AFA install
on a 1600*1200 TFT and a 800*600 screen.

"line space hack"

Because truetype fonts use much space for French accent, TÀÁÂÃÄÅÆ but most languages not need
this chars. So you can reduce the linespace between chars by set a - value.
English Users can set to -3.German users can set to -1 or -2.

The setting depend what accent chars your language need.So it is called hack to show that it can
cause in some cases disadvantage of non reading accent chars.

default in truetypemanager set to uswindescender. This give better convert results.

also there are updates in FAQ show the use of codepages and a generel Tipp to boot faster

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

I have add this in the faq_readme.txt in AFA OS

Q: i want use unicode Fonts for other languages.

A: make sure the truetype font support your national signs.
select in the mainpage the codepage file.It must be a ascii file that use no Hex values (0x)
Now select the font and click on convert. The mssage cant copy font can ignore when dir
fonts: is choose
------------------------------------------

But i do a mistake,I have forget that i mean the truetype fontmanager

I have try it out with a codepage file myself modify and it work.

please test if it work

>but not would be better call this minor uptade 3.93.3 than 3.94?

its a little more than a minor update because truetyoe fonts use more linespace than bitmap fonts and so can see not so much lines.

But with that update you can show 10 lines more text on a 768 height screen and fontsensitive windows get smaller
when you reduce the space of a 13 pixel font by 2.Only 11 pixels are use.this work for english and german users.

I think see 10 more lines is very usefull in praxis so new version

Hello Bernd,

What are the chances the font rendering will be optimized? Generally speaking, the display is pretty quick, it's just when I scroll through webpages quickly that I see a noticable lag.

I use Amithlon and an AMD Athlon 1600.

Thanks for AfA!
