Announcement   Announcement : IOSPIRIT GmbH quits the Amiga market
posted by tomazkid on 24-Mar-2007 1:36:31 (8362 reads)
From IOSPIRIT website:

IOSPIRIT GmbH ends its Amiga business on the 1st of April 2007.

In the future, IOSPIRIT GmbH will be focusing solely on its Mac® products. In order to better serve the needs of that market and to be able to process incoming orders faster and more efficiently, a reimplementation of the shop system is currently being worked on.

The reasons for the decision to no longer operate in the Amiga market are as follows:

* we want to fully commit to developing Mac® products in the future.
* the big additional overhead that would be necessary to integrate (permanent) support for download and package versions of Amiga software into the new concept and the drawbacks that would come with this for the majority of our customers - which today are Mac® users.
* the decreasing demand for Amiga products and the the situation of the Amiga market in general.

IOSPIRIT's own Amiga titles will no longer be available beyond April, 1st, 2007 - except of course for remaining stock at dealers. The future distribution as well as development and support of IBrowse will be handled directly by the IBrowse development team. You can find their website at http://www.ibrowse-dev.net/.

Many thanks go to

* all of our customers and users for being loyal for so many years, which has made the development of our Amiga titles possible in the first place.
* all developer and scene buddies for the many interesting, reflective, funny, educational, helpful and amicable moments, anecdotes and experiences.
* all those, who have always been there to help with mental and moral support and an independant, second opinion.

We wish all of you all the best for the future and would be happy to see you again over in the Mac® market. If you are interested in what we are currently working on, you can find our Mac® products at http://www.iospirit.com/.

Sincerly,

Felix Schwarz

@Manu

So...you too wish to place all of this firmly on Bill's doorstep?
I gather then that you also think the board of directors/VC plays no part in all of this "success"?

Neither have I heard of a commercial company making April's Fools when it could hurt their business... ;)

Bill is not the ONE in charge. He may have a strong say but investors and the board of directors also have a say. It's a group effort that things are not progressing.

In most companies that have investors the president is not in charge. He can do as the board of directors want him too or he'll be fired for another puppet.

Well, I just bought from IOSpirit web page a copy of fxScan4 as a gesture of thankfulness and support, just to say you thanks for being there all this time. Thanks and good luck with your future business.

Saluditos,

Ferrán.

I will place it on him because this is exactly what was going on BEFORE the VCs took over as well. No communication and millions of lies.

Poster: DiscreetFX Date: 24-Mar-2007 11:26:59 I have been silent for far to long, what Amiga Inc. is doing to the Amiga is inexcusable. Someone correct me if I am wrong but leaving a nice updated OS (OS 4.0) in limbo to focus on questionable cell phone games is not understandable. I don't know all the details of the current pissing match but it makes the Amiga look like a joke. Ship it already or sell it to someone that can. If I am wrong someone please correct me.

Also the games won't run on current hardware or any phone/pda with Windows Mobile 5 or 6 (which is almost all windows mobile based phones/pda's made the the last few years).

Mike

So you mean he's fighting for Amiga and have the investors and the board against him ?
Sorry, but you can't make me believe that, ever.

He's been the puppet for so long that if he has any real passion for Amiga
left he could resign and leave with at least some dignity left.

And what's the problem, everybody's been paid right? The Os is ready to ship
why would the investors be against that if they don't need to do any investments
in OS4 at the moment. They could just sell it and get some money flow back in.

Main reason - LACK OF SALES.
First, A inc has nothing to do with OS4 other than licensing which is fair on their account. I wouldnt give out my intellectual property to any joe blow companies to ran wild with it. Their current business - They do what keeps them in business - even if it means selling games. If hardware is there, im sure they will do whatever they can to make it licensed.
Second, hardware will be available. Im sure that it is being worked on. this takes time. iF you feel you can deliver hardware or prototype faster then go ahead. Can you also deliver the software while you are at it.
Third, the Amiga market is a joke. No one can make a living off it. Any companies still around are around because of the loyalty devotion to a platform we all love.
Recently, I got offered mediocre $$ for my Amiga 4000s which all are working great. So guess what this means I keep all 5 of them as stock and let the rest of you continue looking on fleabay. The sliding prices and no real hardware and no real prospects of profits from sales of these are the real reasons for lack of sales. Even when Amiga One (XE or ATX style} came out, how many old classic amigans ran out to buy it... few. The market size does not allow for economies of scale, to expect pricing similar to pc, is insane and if no sales are generated, then no hardware will be available and thus amiga will die off like 8 bit commodores and ataris. No hardware means no software. Why would i develop anything for a bunch of UAE users...
The exit of IOspirit suggests lack of community supporting the company, hence its dropping its support all together. IF there was at least something their store would remain open. The lack of buying... I have been too many shows promoting IOSpirit Amiga software and few results in terms of sales. Thank God i have a real job which pays me well enough not to care. Sad but true, sometimes Reality bites.

I'm not feeling pity about them stopping the support to the Amiga community. But the reasons they provide I feel that they try to fool us. They wanted to have sales for products they produced a couple of years ago, with no updates at all? This is stupid, even if these products were made for Windows. Also, many of their products work on specific hardware because of the luck of drivers, something that they never tried to widen. So they were dead a few years now, that's why they were making price offers of their products. Just to earn more money. We bought these programs just to support them, but they got the money and made products for other platform. This is really silly. And that's why I'm really happy that they close down their amiga shop. Goodbye and have a nice day IOSpirit.

No need to correct you, as you are completely correct.
OS4 could infact have been out years ago if it was not for Amiga INCs stubbornness when it comes to license. My personal feeling is that they regret the OS4/AmigaONE deal if first place and try to make AA seem like the new AmigaOS.

I still have absolutely no idea on what they earn on this behavior.
