| Oh dear... You just beat me! I posted these news too (and perhaps I added it as Hardware news just to avoid OS religion wars)... _________________ "When the Amiga came out, everyone [at Apple] was scared as hell." (J.L. | The price is really awesome, however I would really have liked to see a socket so you can upgrade the ram and a couple of SATA ports...
The Efika isn't/wasn't really meant to be a desktop board. The fact that you will be able to run MorphOS 2.0 on it is great, except that MorphOS 2.0 isn't out :) So I would wait for that to ship before considering to buy one. _________________ AmigaOS 4.x Beta Tester - Classic Amiga enthusiast - http://www.hd-zone.com is my Amiga Blog, check it out!

| Gee, which shall I choose? An OS without hardware, or hardware without an OS? Its just so tempting either way...

| Not bad. Not bad at all.
Of course I wouldn't take it into consideration to tinker with a bare motherboard and tailor a case and peripherals around it, but 200 to 280 E for a complete package aren't that bad either. The price-performance ratio seems right to me.
It's just... what's got it to do with Amiga and what's the use of yet another Linux box? The "of course it runs Linux" devices are piling up around me, and they're getting tiresome. As a fileserver replacement (HD encryption) it's too slow, and for desktop use it would be an exercise in asceticism if you're accustomed to the typical 3Ghz, 1GB RAM PC setup. The option to give an exotic Amiga derivative another spin some day, is not fully making up for this. The timing is unfortunate, MorphOS should be available immediately, I could be tempted then.
OTOH, I just remembered that I'm not going to buy any goods from a company that is headed by Bill Buck, but that's another story. _________________ Eagerly awaiting the X1000

This news item was submitted by three different people, discussed amongst the staff and finally approved. Given the fact that we do and have approved other news items containing : A: Hardware without official OS4-license B: General hardware and software news, not necessarily Amiga-related, but covering areas within the topics of the different forums here, is there nothing unusual about this one.
Any issues with this or some other news item is not to be discussed in the public fora. Last edited by tomazkid on 22-May-2007 at 05:50 PM. Last edited by tomazkid on 22-May-2007 at 05:13 PM.

Well, it is not just another Linuxbox, it is just another MorphOS box. MorphOs 2.0 is ported to teh Efika already and will be released soon. Needs some polishing, but beta phase is quite far already. MOS on the board was shown publically several times already and the board is officially supported by the MorphOS-team. _________________ My programs: via.bckrs.de MorphOS user since V0.4 (2001)

| Well I'm not sure you can paint it that rosy. What you can say is that he has created a low end, inexpensive motherboard that "supposedly" will run MorphOS 2.0 - when that comes out - and that is certainly good news for those wanting a cheap way to try MorphOS. The problem is MorphOS isn't out yet, obviously isn't finished, and has no announced release date.
And...the board will not run OS4 unless a license is secured.
So...good news yes, but in reality it's nothing the community can use at present. I think all of us know by now that unless a product is shipping and in your hands, it's totally vapour. Even press releases really mean next to nothing.
My problem with the board (in addition to the non-availability of either MorphOS or OS4 for it) is that it is a low-end board severly lacking in expansion options. I am more looking forward to a high-end board like the Amiga Inc./ACK announced power system. _________________ AmigaOS 4.x Beta Tester - Classic Amiga enthusiast - http://www.hd-zone.com is my Amiga Blog, check it out!

| @tomazkid I have absolutely nothing against MorphOS/Genesi news as long as it aint posted in a way that makes it look like it is Amiga or under the Amiga section. It surely is way more ontopic than lets say news about ps3 and various random ppc hardware. MorphOS and Aros is definitely the closest alternative you get to AmigaOS and thus i want to read about such news.
This one was posted under the right section as well, so i dont see why anyone should complain.. :) Last edited by Tomas on 22-May-2007 at 09:10 PM.

| Nice price but with:
a). No non-TUXed OS available now (MOS) b). No OS4 liscense will ever appear! (will someone ever get one anyway?)
With 2 marks like that, this looks like theire emptying their stocks and running away from the market. _________________ See my blog and collection website! . https://www.blog.amigaguru.com

| It has MorphOS and AROS, as for OS4... well it just never got into shallow waters before, it's not exactly a plus _________________ Indigo 3D Lounge, my second home. The Illusion of Choice | Am*ga
