Software News   Software News : WinUAE (1.4.4) released
posted by _Steve_ on 22-Sep-2007 21:02:47 (2563 reads)
Toni Willen has released the latest incarnation of Amiga Emulator WinUAE (1.4.4).

New features:
  • major directory filesystem emulation update:
    • removable drive automounting on the fly (USB memory, USB HD, memory cards, any removable drive that mounts as a drive letter in Windows)
    • drag'n'drop directory/archive automount
    • more missing filesystem packets supported (including ACTION_EXAMINE_ALL)

  • major "Add Harddrive" uaehf.device update:

    • removable drives (real harddrives, x-in-one memory card readers, zip drives, etc..) supported on the fly
    • configured drive but no media or [USB] drive not connected when emulation was started: automounted when inserted (no RDB automount yet)
    • empty drives listed in "Add Harddrive" dialog.

  • X-Power Professional v1.3 and Nordic Power v1.5 support
  • Pro-Wizard module ripper updated to v1.62
  • hq2x filter added.
  • Added two basic A4000 quickstart configurations.
  • More accurate CD32/CDTV end of audio track detection.
  • Current configuration name added to window title.

Bugs fixed:

  • Windows 2000: "Add Harddrive" was always disabled.
  • "Add Harddrive" HD controller selection was missing.
  • Better compatibility with OS 3.1 and older HDToolbox versions.
  • CD32 statefile support works again.
  • Paths handling updates (yet again..)
  • Disappearing mouse pointer in fullscreen modes when GUI was active.
  • bsdsocket emulation crashing or freezing when emulation was reset.
  • directory filesystem file/directory deletion failing and Windows recycle bin support enabled returned wrong error codes.

Toni, where will you stop?
A developer like you would certainly help if you would work on OS4.

The last update of WinUAE seemed to break amikit, hope this one doesn't.

Then again, I hardly use Windows at home these days anyway.

btw, i just do not undestand, for what someone interesting in AROS on x86 (in fact, that AROS can't handle 68k application and very unsable), or on Amithlon, if, these kind of VERY GOOD emulator (where you can run 99.9% of amiga software ) already here and for free, without any illegal issues and other annoing thinks ? it just works, and do all what need it for classic amiga. Toni - you rokz :)

ps. PPC support - that only need , to use WarpOS/PowerUP software, and aos4 later (maybe :) )

Because... They aren't mutual exclusive, besides AROS has no legal matters, and AROS could eventually integrate parts from WinUAE, while having access to native parts altogether

I wonder if "any removable drive" includes CD/DVD drives? This was something I asked Toni about more than once, always to be told he didn't have enough AmigaOS info to do it. Would be awesome, because CacheCDFS is extremely buggy (and especially does not correctly read large files from CDs created by Mac OS X).

Once again Thanx for a new version of WinUAE.

It's only getting better and better for each new version, so please keep up ALL your good work.

I hope that you one day will emulate a PPC processor aswell so I also can play my PPC games at the Amiga.

And when the Dragon 1200 from Elbox will be released I also hope that one day you also will emulate the ColdFire Processor.

Just a fantasy of mine.
