ACube Systems Srl is pleased to to announce the immediate availability of the awaited AmigaOS 4.0 for Amiga 1200, 3000(T) or 4000(T) with a PowerPC CPU, developed by Hyperion Entertainment VOF. It is now possible to benefit of all the features of this new AmigaOS release, an operating system famous for its efficiency and small footprint.

AmigaOS 4.0, thanks to its power and optimization, succeeds in using at the maximum even systems running at 160Mhz, allowing the multimedia performances and the usability everyone expects from AmigaOS.

The interest expressed towards this new AmigaOS version is so high that, actually, orders are twice than expected. This shows that the Amiga community is still strong and that it enjoys and support the efforts made by Hyperion Entertainment VOF and ACube Systems Srl to develop and promote concrete and powerful products.

It's possible to order AmigaOS 4.0 for "Classic" Amigas directly from ACube Systems or from a reseller listed on page

@kriz

QuarkTex is not Warp3D.

QuarkTex is library or program that acts like Warp3D, all programs that tries access warp3d api ends up in QuarkTex routines, QuarkTex then emulates the Warp3D behaviour on top of OpenGL.

It not unlike what I’m doing whit Svgalib, whit little difference that I’m using most of the original source code.

What I’m doing is remove lowlevel hardware banging routines and replace this routines talk whit OS libraries, in some case it’s 1 to 1 mapping of function name x (svgalib) to function name y (picasso96/Graphics library), and some cases it requires some tricks, in some cases I don’t need change any thing because some routines just depends on the low lever routines, so need to change any thing.

Although, my order is still at "awaiting stock" status. Oooh, the anticipation

I've written a news post for Ars Technica that includes this news, so that should increase interest:

That's rather irrelevant. Warp3D directly accesses the graphics chip. It should be clear that this does not work when running in a hosted environment since Windows is controlling the graphics hardware, and Warp3D messing with it would disrupt operation of Windows itself.

So no matter how you look at it, the original poster claiming that we "prevent" Warp3D from running on UAE was talking nonsense. QuarkTex fills the gap since Warp3D can not run on UAE for technical reasons.

What if Stéphane Guillard Warp3D software render driver was made for 68k ?
Would that work in WinUAE?

Is that why its only PPC ?

EDIT:
From the homepage
Quote:
What it doesn't do :
68K version (distribution not allowed by Hyperion because of Amithlon Warp3D licensing issues)

Then i guess so.

Yes, very nice article. Puts the current situation in a nutshell, describes things concisely so that casual observers can keep tabs on how things are progressing, and doesn't take sides. Awesome reporting, Jeremy.

Yes it's a nice article. Unfortunately the discussion thread has the obligatory "just let it die" comments.

A super great article Jeremy.
It still shows the AmigaOS is still alive and without
the help of AInc.

@Hans

People were telling me that when I was running a A500 and they had MSDOS 286 machines!

and btw, MOS developer tell that OS4 contain anti OS4 emu code.
Who can be sure if a OS4 running on uae get some day anti UAE code, or a lib do that

>Yeah, right... disregarding the inline assembler, the totally different architecture, it >should be nothing but flipping a switch, eh?

OS4 run on 68k in the past.Should i really post links that show this ?

>Or, for the matter, the absence of an MMU in some 68k models.

i dont know if a OS need a MMU as important.Linux too can work without MMU as far i know

look at mmulibrary, this lib can too memoryprotect and reserve private mem.

But i am sure, UAE can easy change to use the Host OS memory protect features to alloc mem.look at tlsf mem, this is a new memsystem, and size is only 2,5 kb.

So a new mem system seem no 7. th world wonder.

later i want too mem protect in AFA or AROS , i introduce a safer system switch, that do partly resourcetracking and structure check.

but first priority is for me have a nice looking OS and that is not so easy because i have no AOS source and window/intuition structure of AOS is not ducument complete, so it is more work to replace window functions with AROS code

>Although I don't exactly get what you want to say, I can assure you that AmigaOS >4.0 is more stable than any previous version of AmigaOS.

nice but that doesnt help when the CPU emu have bugs , or emulation it must be clear, if a Bug come by CPU emu or by OS or Apps.

for example in the first time i develop on UAE i often test programs if they work on UAE and CPU EMU and JIT work well.Or get reports from users that program xy not work on uae.
If they do not work really on my uae OS install, i have identical install on my classic amiga and test if work here.

And only if a soft work on my classic but not on uae i begin to search for a Bug in uae.

so if somebody that does not know much about OS4 and own a good working OS4 machine, i think its a impossible mission to get a OS4 Hardware emulator stable working with OS4.

@Bernd

Read again, it says "UAE" not Amithlon.

There was a time when we actually charged people for Warp3D support, and Amithlon (I think it was my special friend Harald Frank at that time) didn't want to. So we prohibited the software driver on Amithlon.

There is, as I said, only technical reasons that prevent Warp3D from running on Amithlon and WinUAE. For Amithlon, I would have had to invest extra work, which I wasn't ready to do for free, especially considering what happened between Harald and me before (which was very personal).

Again, you are free to try and install Warp3D on WinUAE or Amithlon. If it works, be happy. If it doesn't, well, not my problem.

Which was loooong time ago, which had far lesser features than today etc.
...and which (for the above reasons) you would not like to run, if you can have the PPC-version.

Actually it was only for betatesting the first PPC-modules and the actual contract does not give Hyperion a licence so even release that old 68k-version for UAE or Amithlon.

So... what's the point of your whole null-argumentation-chain ?

it's said to have an HAL... do you know what that means?

Actually it was only for betatesting the first PPC-modules and the actual contract does not give Hyperion a licence so even release that old 68k-version for UAE or Amithlon.

If does it matter what it was for, it existed and that's what been argued, and if you're going to push the contract here, it seems that the contact is terminated, ups...

So... what's the point of your whole null-argumentation-chain ?

Somehow developers of the not so holly platforms gives you the hitsches? This is not Amiga-News where you have the endorsment of staff you know...
