Software News   Software News : Epistula Instant Messenger Update

Epistula Instant Messenger - Release v52.16

Just a quick release to get the public version of Epistula to the same level as the recently released Classic AmigaOS 4 version included on the CD.

So with this, there's new documentation and quite a few bug fixes thanks to Timothy De Groote's hard work over the past month. Thanks a lot Tim.

There is one bug left that I just can't track down... a crash occuring within a strlen() call, which I WILL have fixed for the next release. As usual the latest version it can be downloaded here.

Installation
It is recommended that you backup your epistula.xml and msn.xml files and perform a full reinstall of the package using the included installer.

Special Thanks
Wow, I have software on a major Amiga OS release. Very grateful for such an opportunity! Thanks Hyperion

More updates soon...

Regards
Daniel Allsopp

@Slash

You are right. I'm afraid that it might work for some people, and for others not. Maybe there is problem about the contact list that someone has. On my list there are some friends that use not ordinary characters. Could this make the Epistula list confused?

Did you ever looked the purple library of the Pidgin if this could be ported and used with epistula?

You have a very good point there as it's rock solid on my machine and quite a few others, and your suggestion could very well be the answer.

To check this I would need some help from these people to track down this possible bugs, so if you are having problems, could you please do the following steps for me (probably on a windows machine, or Pidgin, or whatever):

1. Create a new Hotmail account; maybe with your usual name plus Epistula, such as walkero_Epistula for example.

2. Add your contacts with the 'non-ordinary' characters in their names to your new account and ask them to accept you.

3. Check that Epistula is still crashing with your new account and newly added contacts and if so, email daniel@the-snakepit.co.uk with the login details of your NEW account that you've just created.

This would help a LOT in the debugging of Epistula.

I heard Voodoo had problems with Epistula. He run it, connect to MSN and on exit he got a crash. Thats on ua1 and 512mb ram. I dont know his system but i think this is the same problems as some other have and i had before... Still more to test until i can say more ;)

A Micro A1 with 512Mb... interesting. Has memtester been ran and if so, did it report any problems? I took my 512Mb SO-DIMM out last year because the machine was just SOOO unstable with it. Putting the factory fitted 256Mb back in solved all my crashing problems.

Not saying that is the problem, but something to think about and possibly check.

Please can everyone download the latest archive (Epistula and MSN both 52.17) and let me know if that fixes the problems with people logging on.

Thanks.
