| Finally. This is an important milestone for AROS. This will make it easier for people who want to develop for AROS. Congratulations Stanislaw on getting this done.

| How would you describe the importance of "self-compilation" feature to common people? Any analogy or metaphor? Thanks. _________________ Modern Retro Experience

Before AROS developers would have to boot Linux (or Windows) and run a cross-compiler on that system in order to compile parts of AROS (and apps too?). Then they would have to copy the compiled binary over and start up AROS.
Now they only need AROS, they don't need a second operating system in order to develop AROS stuff.

| @AmiKit
It´s kinda like the chiken and the egg situation.
Previously AROS OS Developers had a Turkey, which they gene manipulated into giving a live chicken.
Now they have both the chiken and eggs... Or something.
AROS can now make more AROS, before it was other OS which made AROS.
In theory all other OS´ can now go away... :) Although not likely _________________ A posting a day keeps the sanity away...

I would be less hassle for developers to develop/port software that runs on Aros. This will benefit all users since it will most likely lead to more people developing Aros apps. |

| Congratulations to all the developers that have worked so hard to make AROS what it is today
In my view AROS has just made that big from being a self booting application to being a real OS as you can now develop new versions of the OS without requiring to use ether a second computer to s second separate OS on the same hardware.
When my SAM440 arrives I will give AROS a try on it, I know that I can try it now on x86, but I personally have no interest in running an AmigaOS natively on my desktop. _________________ Sam440ep 667mhz, 512MB, 120GB 2.5" HD, OS4.1FE WinUae 3.0.0, OS 3.9, BB3, Catweasel MkIV Amiga 1200, Blizzard 040/40 (BlizzardPPC 060/200 with SCSI removed at present), mediatorSX pci, Voodoo3, PCI network card os 3.9BB2 4MB Minimig with ARM addon boar

Does that mean the AROS community is like the Linux community and is mostly programmers? Since in this case all the common people are programmers. |

So what will you run on your Sam then? Linux? |

| My metaphor is ost suitable for a Greek audience.
Cross-compiling = You live with your parents and build/repair your house where you will move in the future. Self-Compiling = You live in your house while you are building/repairing it. Of course you need the bare minimum to live in. |

Yes and OS4.1 but if I installed AROS on my desktop x86 box I would have a Windows box to rdesktop to and run real software on and there for no use for any other OS _________________ Sam440ep 667mhz, 512MB, 120GB 2.5" HD, OS4.1FE WinUae 3.0.0, OS 3.9, BB3, Catweasel MkIV Amiga 1200, Blizzard 040/40 (BlizzardPPC 060/200 with SCSI removed at present), mediatorSX pci, Voodoo3, PCI network card os 3.9BB2 4MB Minimig with ARM addon boar
