Amiga Announces New Line of Consumer Applications

Amiga Cool Tools available for under $ 2.00
Snowman Maker, Tip Calculator and TipIt are first in the new line of products

All available at www.shopamiga.com

Issaquah, Wash. - December 12, 2008 – Amiga, Inc. announces a new line of consumer friendly applications built on AmigaAnywhere technology that enables the quick development and deployment of applications and services for supported hardware and software platforms.

Amiga is now offering Snowman Maker, Tip Calculators and TipIT for Windows devices for only .99 each. These are the first in a new line of accessible easy to use products, that everyone can use and enjoy.

Snowman Maker provides an entertaining interface that allows the user to create their own custom Greeting card directly on their Windows Mobile phone and then mailing that custom card directly from their phone to any other device that supports MMS messaging. Snowman Maker makes giving cards fun and easy.

Tip Calculator takes the guess work out of what to leave for your tip. Simply type in the amount of your bill, and Tip Calculator takes care of the rest. Immediately select from one of the levels and the amount and total are right there ready to apply to the bill. Now you will never have to worry about what the correct amount should be.

TipIt provides a simple and easy way to calculate tips for not only your server at the restaurant, but cab fares and everywhere else you may want to know what the correct amount should be.

Amiga will be offering several other new Cool Tool applications in the coming weeks that will provide fun and friendly applications that everyone can enjoy.

That is the only theory I have too. The company needs to appear active, for some reason -- be it the court case, other legal matters, or for tax purposes.

I realize the value of 'Amiga' is much less than what they originally paid for it, due to the years passing and such new and stellar Amiga applications as 'tip calculator', yet why hold onto assets that are evidently useless to the company? If they could sell Amiga to another company for say, 500K-1 million, wouldn't it be of greater benefit than just doing nothing with the name?

I suppose they are waiting for the Hyperion court case to end, even if they considered selling Amiga off, but it's been years and years of inaction, so I simply do not understand why they have held onto it this long. It's a completely insane business model, if, in fact, Amiga Inc. is a real business of any sort -- which I am guessing they can't be.

I do not recall this Amiga, Inc. releasing anything great and glorious. Although they have announced a few great and glorious pieces of vaporware.

Using the calculator that came free with my phone, I figured out they only have to sell 4,545,454 and 1/2 copies of their CalcTip at $0.99 each to break even.

You can even do a LOT more with the HP11C scientific calculator at http://os4depot.net/share/utility/scientific/hp11c.lha

What's more it is free.

Even better it actually runs on Amiga OS4 - and an older version even runs on Amiga OS3 if you really must.

A tip calculator is a 1-2 day project ? That long ? Pick up any tutorial for Java or similar languages, and they show you how to do that in 1-2 minutes.

I doubt it would require many lines of code to write a tip calculator.

@Comi

It's sad when I think of what Amiga Inc. could have been doing all these years.

Yes, I understand that the legal wranglings over OS 4 have stalled things a bit, but there are so many other Amiga related activities they could be doing. Off the top of my head:

* Kickstart/Workbench licensing for MiniMig, Clone A, and Natami
* Promotion of Amiga Forever
* Deal with Nintendo for Amiga games (would require kickstart, etc) on the Wii Virtual Console.

Any of these things would positivelly endear them to the community. And this community, to be brutally honest, is the only group of people left on the planet who still hold affection for the branding that Amiga Inc. reserves such high value for.

Expecting that same community to be excited over some "Learn AA2 in 24 hours!" style apps for microsoft based mobile phones? That's just frigging insulting.

@EntilZha

Its not the code that takes 1-2 days.. but rather making the graphics :)

Well atleast the is my estimate seen from a coder.

Your calculations are deeply flawed. You failed to add in tips.

Perhaps the core competense of AmigaInc is to entertain the community ?!

YEEHHAWWW!!

Again *Inc gave us some fun, we could laugh at them, right?

(( )) ?

Perhaps they could rename themself to a OmegaInc so that we could continue laughing, but this time without any shame?
