Software News   Software News : Protrekkr released for AmigaOS4!
   posted by spotUP on 9-Mar-2009 22:48:33 (7733 reads)
Salass00 has ported an advanced tracker called Protrekkr.
It has a built in softsynth and a 303 emulator. You can also use ordinary samples.

ProTrekkr v1.98d (06/03/2009)

ProTrekkr (formerly known as NoiseTrekker by Juan Antonio Arguelles Rius aka Arguru) is a tracker program combining a software synthesizer together with a traditional samples tracker which can be used to create electronic music (like psytrance, trance goa, hard acid, IDM, chip, techno, etc.) for small sized intros, demos or games.

The tracker is available for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.

Main features:

- Open source.
- 16 multi-notes tracks (with 256 virtual channels).
- Samples editor (can load up to 64 bits stereo samples).
- Patterns based tracker style sequencer.
- Synthesizer with custom waveforms support.
- Cubic spline interpolation.
- 2 303s units.
- Wav files import/export.
- 16 or 32 bits wav rendering.
- Multi effects engine with reverb, distortion, filters, delay, EQs, flanger, etc...
- Midi in/out support.
- Protracker .mod files import.
- Samples compressor handling Gsm/Mp3/TrueSpeech (not on Linux/Mac OS X yet).
- Replay routine source code to be included & used inside your own programs (Also featuring a replay routine for the PlayStation Portable).
- Winamp/XMPlay plugin available.
- And maybe more...

This is a FREEWARE tool, this means that you can use it for whatever you want and for free.
There's NO GUARANTEE that this program will perform well or even run on your computer.

Download it here!

Cool program, but it does need some graphic optimizing, maybe use hw sprite for mouse might make it look smoother and maybe picasso96.

Damn, it looks good... I always dreamed of using this type of tracker on my A1200 all those years ago with full 16bit audio. Kicko will enjoy this I think. Still need to listen to his latest tracks... I will try it on my Windoz box for now (I don't have Amiga Os4.1 at the minute), just to get a feel for it...

Very nice!

Nearly unusable on SAM440ep @ 667, also tried switching to fullscreen and switched the interpolation from Cubic to None and switched Reverb Setup off.

Only Program opened costs nearly the whole CPU Power.

i guess he has linked it with the shared version of sdl which requires os4.1...
doesn't matter though, this app is way too cpu hungry for a classic amiga.

Does it support CAMD?
Moving the audio handling to MIDI would free up LOT of CPU cycles.
I'd try it myself, but I'm still 4.0 until I can find a job.

I would be happy to help add CAMD support!!! Especially if I could run this
on my MicroA1/OS4 machine.

OK,

so this tracker is a simple download and run for OS4.1 users. My Question then is, why the Amiga platform is not mentioned within the OS'es mentioned here?

Also, Were it possible to change the coding a bit, so it is faster on a sam440ep board, as according to a user within this thread, it si very slow.

I will try this tonight I hope. Looking forward to finding out how slow it really is.

Cheers.

OH, and btw, there is always HD-Rec for now also.

hello,

Impressive one day port !!!

I think we must open a thread, or even a forum chapter, with suggestions for ported softwares, for the NG amigas (like this one as example).

@lylehaze

I've uploaded a statically linked version of ProTrekkr here (just the executable):
http://www.a500.org/uploads/protrekkr-static.lha

Try it, if it works better for you.

The MIDI code should be added to the "src/midi/RtMidi.cpp". Add a

Quote:

#if defined(__AMIGAOS4__)

...

#endif

section to the end of the file and add the CAMD code inside this. To compile with midi enabled you need to remove the "-D__NO_MIDI__" option from the makefile and do a "make -f makefile.amigaos4 clean". To disable dynamic linking just remove the "-use-dynld" from the makefile.

@All

BTW I just uploaded a new version to OS4Depot that should reduce the overall CPU usage by a couple of percent. It's possible to reduce it more by reducing the frame rate at which the GUI updates (currently at 25 fps, was originally set at 100 fps) but it doesn't seem to be worth it IMO.

@salass00

Make the GUI frame rate update configurable..
1. Follow screen mode settings
2. 25Hz
3. 50Hz
4. 100Hz
Or 2, 3 and 4 configurable to any number (25-120) if possible.

@salass00

New OS4Depot Version runs about 10-15% faster than the previous one.

@All(1)
If you want to use this programm and want a little more speed:

- Switch to Fullscreen Mode
- Change under FX Setup the Interpolation from Cubic to None and in the Reverb Setup Tab set the Switch to Off

@All(2)
Replacing the SDL based GUI to a native Amiga one seems to be a lot of work, it isn't just as "easy" as compiling a whole SDL based App/Game/etc. for the Amiga. But if anyone has enough spare time -> just do it

Hm yes, a little bit to slow for SAM ;)) I think only 900% speed optimising is needed so it runs smooth with only 4 Channels *lol*
But yeah, the Idea wasn't that bad at all to have some Softsynth Tracker arround for ppl who want to use them, but please make it native with more speed ;)) Course I do not think that more powerfull PPC hardware will come soon. And yeah, I watched a 303 Softsynth EMU some years ago in realtime on a A1200 with only 030/50mhz, and very smooth sounding too... so something went wrong in the Computer evolution when a 667mhz computer can't do it ;))
But good work anyway, hope it can get optimised in some way so it is useable for more ppl. I would not use this Tracker course it does not sound good enough for my own taste, but one more tracker in the pool is better than nothing :O) THX Anyway :O))

looks very professional, but painly too slow!

someone should delete this lines from the code:

int main()
{
int i;

for(i=1; i < 1000000000; i++)
{
cout
