Software News   Software News : AMIGIFT 2.0 Has Been Released!
posted by diegocr on 1-Jun-2009 20:10:09 (7176 reads)
The AMIGIFT Project Team is proud to announce the immediate availability of the Final 2.0 Release. AMIGIFT is a peer-to-peer filesharing application which connect to several networks at once by using plug-ins. Furthermore, it isn't another simple port but a 100% AmigaOS Native Application, and thanks to its dynamically loadable system to plugins it's not limited to the current know network plugins, being new plug-ins easly created. And, of course, it includes a full-featured Graphical User Interface, made using MUI.

Yeah, it has happened... after a very long period of development, the Final 2.0 Version see the light, no more pre-releases! The list of changes since the previous public release are quite considerable, we encourage you to take the time to read through the ChangeLog if you're interested on using the program.

Most important changes to mention are the following:

1) The daemon no longer uses ixemul, we have now a totally native application!
2) Each of the libs and plug-ins are now compiled and loaded individually, rather than linked with the daemon executable.
3) GiFTMui (The MUI front-end) uses now MUI Custom Classes for everything.
4) LOTS of code have been either rewritten from scratch or optimized.
5) There's now a dopus-like file manager embed into GiFTMui.
6) ...and much, MUCH, more!

AMIGIFT 2.0 is designed on a portable fashion, hence you can test it quite easly, Here's a Quick-Start Guide:

1) Remove any signal of existance of any previous amigift version. ¹
2) Download the main archive (AMIGIFT-2.0.lha, link below)
3) Extract it somewhere, eg RAM:, and launch GiFTMui.
4) On this step, at your first run, you need to configure it, please read the documentation for further info on this (link below).

Please take a few minutes to read through the Getting Started documentation chapter for full details on how to start using AMiGiFT, the link is:

http://amigift.sourceforge.net/index.php?starting

¹ You should be able to use your previous Incoming drawer, though.

All of the available downloads can be found from the following URL:

Thanks a lot to everybody supporting us, and specially for your understanding with the slow development, we hope the delay worth the trouble and you'll enjoy the best ever amigift release

Sincerely,
Diego Casorran.

So what's the point of this program?

I've uploaded a new Video to YouTube with a lot better quality than the previous (unfortunately, there seems to be some frameskip due the recording/codec used, sorry about that)

It shows how to Download, Install, Configure, and use the program.

Check it out at:

@K0rky

Maybe amikit have the old 1.x version installed, on an amigift: assign, or an amigift old compoment installed ???

please check your installation and run snoopdos to see if a compoment failed (just before the problem, seen the last compoment called).

I am not bothered at all that you (or someone else) get a crash at this point.

(however.. i'll try to check the code related to this (which is here as-is since amigift 1.x))

While I understand the block when searching for Amiga warez (I wouldn't like to see keyfiles/cracks around for programs like DvPlayer, Pagestream, FryingPan and so on), I think it should limit the search to specific keywords (warez, crack, serial...). I don't know what/if there's any legal Amiga stuff on the supported networks, but I know it would make sense for certain type of legal material, such as games/demos video grabs, mp3 remixes from Amiga games and so on. In any case a crash is a bug, never a feature :)

Oh, so it's for downloading music illegally?
I've heard about that!

Thanks!

@Varthall
If it blocks *anything* Amiga related, that does rather seem like an indirect admission that the program is only going to be used to download illegal stuff... One wonders what would happen if you searched for an AROS iso, or maybe more likely "Amiga Amikit"?

EDIT: damn, it seems i confused you with another Chris here, hence why i should get bothered with what you say, when obviously are wrong arguments.

Ok, thanks for answering. I hope you can find some time to do it in the future. The program looks just great and very complete.

I have been informed the DEPS's Installer replaces asyncio.library under MOS 2.2 with that older version found on the archive, keep warned..

However, i wonder how is this possible, since copylib() statement clearly states the files aren't replaced if aren't new
