That's right.

@All:

Not to mention, that there was a vote here on AmigaWorld a while ago, and most of the users voted for news about all OSes with a strong Amiga-origin are welcomed here. (Previously, only "official" Amiga line of news were allowed.) That includes AROS, and - even if some people don't like the fact - MorphOS too. That's why then later amigans.net spawned, to be the primary OS4-only site, similar to MorphZone for MorphOS people, or aros-exec for AROS folks. And still, if you're not interested in a news item, who forces you to read it? Or even comment it? Please, get a life.

@several

Stop living in the past, aren't you tired of the war that has done no good for any of you ?

No more MOS vs AOS in this news item. If you want to compare OS4 vs MOS2 then make a thread in free for all.

Vox: I can remember YAM was for a long time 68k/PPC, etc. etc.

I really don’t care how was first, but Yam is PowerPC native for AmigaOS4 and it has been for where long time.

Vox: The point was not to have another MOS vs OS4 war, personally I loved OS4 Emu

So that’s way you bring up OS4Emu, because you think that will make me happy?

Vox: Another point well taken is that there is no more MOS hardware in production, so SAM is a good shot.

I don’t disagree, Sam440 is probably good hardware in the same way Pegasus II is good hardware.
(Even AmigaOne-XE is good hardware once you have replace the CPU fan, found some good RAM modules, added pull down restores, patched the IRQ signals )

Vox: short expiation in AW tips how to exactly make them run without crashes?

Just look it up I have explained it before,
Quake 1, Quake 2, Heretic 2 runs out of the box, Shogo you need to run whit out the GUI from CLI.

Yes maybe you should clean up the thread from page 2.

I use (and love!) AmigaOS4.1 so you can call me a Red if you wish

In my opinion, it is very important to have information from the outside world here. If nothing else - it makes you see things in a bigger picture, in perspective. How do you know that OS4.x is doing well and advancing if you cannot compare with similar OSes? How can you tell how big our steps are if you do not have a measure to use?

And in case you don't care or can't be bothered, it's just like with the radio: do not listen to the show if you don't want to

NAM>I really don’t care how was first, but Yam is PowerPC native for AmigaOS4 and it has NAM>been for where long time.

Your right is not to care, but MOS is important part of Amiga PPC history as first
fully PPC Native AmigaOS. Dont believe me, ask coders, but I believe that
this experience has made later OS4 porting a lot easier. Things are not that black and white.

NAM>I don’t disagree, Sam440 is probably good hardware in the same way Pegasus II is NAM>good hardware.
NAM>(Even AmigaOne-XE is good hardware once you have replace the CPU fan, found some NAM>good RAM modules, added pull down restores, patched the IRQ signals )

More choices, more software, more hardware is better. I loved when I heard that OS 4.1
was avail for PegII, even I was late to get the hand on the board.
SAM port of MOS would make much more sense then MacMini port to me.
Not that I disapprove the half working MOS and OS 4 for MacMini

NAM>Just look it up I have explained it before,
NAM>Quake 1, Quake 2, Heretic 2 runs out of the box, Shogo you need to run whit out the NAM>GUI from CLI.

Thanks. I would add MOS is more old software compatibile to my knowledge, which is somethings OS 4.x should work on. So competition can be good, too.

So, how do i run it then?

this is somewhat of a reversed(?) deja-vu to me, it used to be blue's that said , no hw no sale...

other than that, good work on keeping it updated and not so much for the blue/red thing thats dooing the thing in the thread atm (that goes for both red's and blues).

No wait, I've got the quote wrong.. White? Does that mean Mac? Or no-colour?

Trolling and comparisations should end. Nobody wants to read that again and again, it makes me tired, very tired!

Everybody knows what we have, so don't be jealous of the other system. Its all about unity.

Wox: Thanks. I would add MOS is more old software compatible to my knowledge, which is something OS 4.x should work on. So competition can be good, too.

Do you wont to know? MorphOS nor AmigaOS4.x is good at ruining classic software infant they where never intended to run "all" software ever created, and they most likely never will because none of operating systems emulate the chipsets, so most of the software are lost, they write to hardware registers that does not exist and crash.

Its not going to get fixed in next version of AmigaOS4 nor MorphOS, its not about classic Amiga anymore its about the new stuff OWB, Abiword, Gimp, PowerPC native programs ported to MorphOS or AmigaOS4 to make up for lost time and declaring market over the years.

And to upset you even more it likely that newer versions of AmigaOS will be even less compatible to classic, because libraries change, devices get rewritten, new API's gets added, and old ones becomes obsolete, this is how things improves.

Lots of OS1.2 software did not work on OS1.3, lots of software OS1.3 software did not work under AmigaOS2.0.

The same is true of Windows software or MacOS software, does any one care if WordPerfect doses not work anymore?

ewww, I just had a recent flashback due to some docs I read recently.

Some of these posts are just like the ones when AnnLu was still active. Some things never change.

I support Sam and OS4.1 but still like the fact that other Amiga variants are being developed and enjoyed! after all isnt the Amiga mainly about having fun with computing

Actually, amigans.net was created long before that vote. I still think of this site as being predominantly OS4 focused, but news about other systems is fine.

Rightly or wrongly, OS4 seems to make modernising a higher priority than backwards compatibility. That's why OS4.1 has Virtual Memory (paging) & super fast memory allocation, while MOS doesn't (because it would break compatibility with a few old games & apps).

AFAIK MorphOS has 'super fast memory allocation'

ChrisH : MorphOS have a "super fast memory allocation" and keeps a good backwards compatibility.
