Miscellaneous News   Miscellaneous News : Amiga, Inc. removes all references to AmigaOS from its website
posted by Petah on 14-Nov-2009 17:52:44 (13792 reads)
In the aftermath of the acquisition of IP rights to the AmigaOS name and source code (as reported by AmigaWorld.net last month), US based Amiga, Inc. has removed all references to the operating system from its website.

Once the official hub for AmigaOS and its development, amiga.com now only promotes the Amiga Anywhere software platform rendering the AmigaOS homepage defunct.

Great news.

I wonder what value Amiga Inc. think there is in the name when they are developing a product that is not only completely pointless but has absolutely nothing to do with the Amiga?

Their whole strategy has been bizarre and confused from day 1. They have a page on the history of the Amiga which has nothing whatsoever to do with what they sell - it's just stupid.

Anyway - enough of that then - finally we can start again with the first true start since April 1994.

Good to Amiga Inc updated the website. This means that they live and will live on.

Unfortunately I do not think that Hyperion is Amiga charismatic enough to carry the Amiga tradition into the future.
I have now for the first time been able to test AmigaOS4.1. After the test, I am not at all sure that this operating system is the future. I would probably say that so far it's a buggy version of the retro OS3.1.

Sincerely hope that Amiga Inc operating system, as they say, is better than AmigaOS4.1. From what I've seen so far, it's not that hard to do better than Hyperion retro version.

I'm actually a bit disappointed by everything I got heard about OS4.x. There are several pieces nicely done but I think it loses a bit of Amiga feeling. Moreover, it is sometimes buggy and sometimes slow.

It may be that I had bad luck that was to test a system that I do not know more about than that it had OS4.1.

@Linnar

If you get a chance to keep playing with OS4+, I hope you will find it more comforatble. I have. I have had a A1000, A500, A1200, and now AmigaOne. Amiga has ever been my only OS. I have never owned another. (My wife switched to an Apple iBook when internet browsing could not support the internet videos back in 2006.)

Anyway, my adjustment to the evolution of differences was over time. You are making a rather big jump, so I would imagine the effect is uncomfortable.

Good luck finding some peace about it all.

I am just so releaved that the court battle is finished. 2010 looks so hope filled!

Hello GGW!
I will give OS4.x several chances in the future. Right now, I was a bit disappointed. But OS4.x is much better than my old 2:05. But it lags far behind MS_XP.

The guy who owned AmogaOne with OS4.1 said that it cost 3 times more to build than an equivalent PC. It is far too much!

The good part is what will happen from now on, not what happened in the past and as a matter of fact, the OS you tried is old today, a new version is just a few weeks away, give that one a try (more modern features, less buggy, new MiniGL library new Python, New Codebench, more hardware accelerated features etc.).

Times ago, I did register their site to know the contract they have with exterrnal developers ... and I did never sign in to their contract.
I've made it being checked by a lawyer (Hope it's the correct word for someone that know well laws) and it revealed that Amiga Inc keep all copyright on the product we develop for their "Amiga Anywhere" ... so it was a really bad contract for external develop ... I doubt someone already signed their contract it this form ....

Happy to see that Amiga.Inc has removed all references to Amiga OS.

It's really pretty sad that Snowman maker and Tip calculator are there two main apps on their homepage!!. Tip calculators are free apps on the Iphone & other mobile OS's!

Yes, it is usually but not always.
Usually switches it with personality and money supply.

Often, it is also true that the winner writes the history. In this case, it is a relative short history, so much can happen yet.

I'm sure that Hyperion OS can be and will be better. But I want to use an Amiga OS so I'll wait a little longer.

Why not HyperionOS?
Hyperion is a cool name! Whoever invented it has a sense of what is sanctioned by the people.

I have the contract in front of me if there is agreement on AA2 you mean.
It is not true that Amiga Inc, all rights. It is committed to allowing Amiga Inc. was a key for the programs. But it is possible to terminate the agreement by both sides.

Huh? I don't get your point. OS4 *is* AmigaOS. Why go through all the bother of renaming it now?

What is Hyperion OS? Never heard of it. AmigaOS4.1, however, I'm using right now and i love it.
