Announcement   Announcement : Hyperion announces "strategic" partnership with A-EON
   posted by Petah on 20-Feb-2010 19:40:58 (12943 reads)
In a somewhat surprising announcement on its homepage, AmigaOS developer Hyperion Entertainment has just announced a "strategic" partnership with hardware manufacturer A-EON Technology. A short communiqué states that the forthcoming AmigaOne X1000 platform will sport a custom chipset with "unparalleled flexibility and scalability" capable of running AmigaOS 4.1, currently undergoing further development.

Exactly. This is not unexpected news, but it's hardly cause for complaint. I suspect the "select few" were enjoying that the partnership wasn't yet official, and now that's been taken away from them they're complaining.

Sometimes you just can't win.

Not with the usual suspects you can't. The day Hyperion settled with Amiga Inc. things really started changing for the better and that rubbed some the wrong way. C'est la vie.

As for the announcement, it is good to have confirmation but the salivating masses need more info. I especially want to know if there will be a keyboard supplied with non-windoze/apple keycaps. Some nice boing balls maybe?

Can't we have it with two nipples? That would make it an Amiga

On a more serious note: I'm glad seeing this official announcement being made. There's just no pleasing them all I guess.

On the contrary that is good news but something that should have been clarified over a month ago when A-EON basically leaked this news! Sounds like they're trigger happy Amigans flying by the seat of their pants! Let's hope they don't lose those said pants in this risky and brave Amiga partnership. Many have tried but few have lived to tell the tale!!

You're right. I've really noticed that elite group lately here on AW. They're "enlightening" us about how the "X" project is vaporware, "enlightening" us with statements that Xorro and Xena serve no purpose, enlightening us with all their inside knowledge of what is going on at Hyperion and telling us that Hyperion is doing it all wrong.

Yup, I"m a lot better off now that I've been "enlightened."

Not.

You could then perhaps enlighten some about the Sam's FPGA usage...

Hasn't somebody already addressed this point?

The reason OS4 makes no use of the FPGA on the Sam boards is that it is not possible to program the FPGA in-circuit through software. Hopefully this will not be the issue with the X1000. Quoting Cobra from this thread.

It's a bit odd being there though if it can't be used by OS4.

It has been said that the chip was intended for an industrial customer and not for OS4.

@pixie

I suggest you keep on-topic instead, this thread has nothing to do with SAM nor FPGA's.
