Software News   Software News : RunInUAE r3 released - Just double-click to run inside UAE!
   posted by ChrisH on 2-Apr-2010 9:54:18 (3960 reads)
A major new version of RunInUAE has been released. RunInUAE is intended to make it incredibly easy to run old Amiga games on Amiga OS4, and it comes with an easy installer, so that you can:

Read more...

* Run almost any HD installed 68k game (or program) inside E-UAE, by simply double-clicking on it! Including WHDLoad & JOTD JST installed games.[/b]

* Run ADF games by double-clicking them. (Needs a little bit of manual set-up if you don't have at least OS4.1 Update 1.) Otherwise just drag & drop them onto RunInUAE's icon in AmiDock or it's AppIcon.

* The installer can set-up E-UAE with full-speed Sam-optimised settings. But it can also use your existing E-UAE settings if you want.

* The installer will copy the necessary Kickstart ROMs off an Amiga Forever CD, if you don't already have them installed.

* You do *not* need to set-up any assignments, nor create or edit any cryptic scripts or config files, for it to work! (Unlike alternative 'solutions'.)

It also adds basic emulation of floppy drive noises to E-UAE, which is both cool & useful. There are a huge number of improvements, which you can find summarised here.

You can download it from here:
cshandley.co.uk/runinuae/RunInUAE_r3.lha
(Will also appear on Aminet & OS4Depot eventually.)

Great new release of my favorite APP!

As usual I would like to remind users (current or potential alike) to investigate the possibility of obtaining 1:1 image rendition (1:1 with a real A500, both pixel aspect and V-Sync) using several tricks depending on whether or not you own a CRT Monitor (check post n.2 in case you only have an LCD): http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=30645&forum=32

As I already did several times, I invite the interested parties to come in agreement to include this program as standard in the next OS release (with official kickstart roms, Hyperion can include them, and it would seem natural for people that buy an Amiga, to receive those as well with the package).

Built-in (and seamless) classic integration would be appreciated by many.

I'll test it in my Sam of 533Mhz, because some games on it doesn't run very fast, even very slow more than on real Amga 500 to 7.2 Mhz.

@Templario
"Performance boost" isn't exactly this utility main purpose (although it might help out a little by making certain choices for you), on Sam you could make a list of what works and what is too much (keep in mind that earlier versions of WinUAE did run somewhat slow even on CPUs far faster than the 440), but keep in mind that the list gets larger the more "Mhz" your Sam has, and I'm afraid yours has the shortest one...

This is awesome. I am now able to get Genetic Species to work. It probably worked on older versions too but I was just able to figure it out today with this new release.

Question: Many of the games that I enjoyed on the classic platform were arcade types which used the joystick port. I have yet to have any real success with using USB joysticks/keypads on my uA1c. Does this help this problem in any way?

Thanks.

533MHz Sam will probably require a Frame Skip of at least 1 to run smoothly. You will also need to use 320x256 or 320x240 screenmode (which requires a monitor that supports one of them). BTW, it defaults to 320x256.

E-UAE is *very* hard to get running fast, so would argue that one of RunInUAE's aims *is* Performance boost! In fact, E-UAE is hard to configure in general, hence RunInUAE aims to take all those problems away from the user.

Are you kidding?!? Surely Generic Species requires a super-fast 68k CPU??? E-UAE probably achieves less than a vanilla A1200 (14MHz 68020), so I would have imagined that performance of 3D/Doom type games to be really bad? (Gloom might run OK-ish though)

I use a (Competition Pro) USB joystick fine on my Sam440 with E-UAE. RunInUAE's manual includes guidance on setting-up OS4 to get USB Joysticks working.

Indeed, I was forgetting that before RunInUAE was made, we had that long thread (initiated by you) about tweaking UAE performance, thus my UAE experience was already as good as it gets when RunInUae came out (of course many people do not have the right settings though, so they will get better performance in that case).

@DAX

Hi DAX, on your other post with tips for "natural looking" graphics you mentioned MX3's UAE re-compile for Sam440ep-flex.

Does this UAE version have the same benefits on a Sam440ep? Is this the same version uploaded on OS4Depot as "e-UAE 0.8.29-WIP4+ with AMIGFX driver"?

Thanks!

Cheers,
Shufflepuck
