I know it was never their intention to release the motherboard on it's own, but....
I realy hate that ! I already have a very nice keyboard and mouse, also a tower that I like very much, and I want to pick my own DVD and HD's ! Damn it ! Sigh.....
Now I would be forced to spend more on a new Amiga then neccesary (for me) and I'd get stuff I didn't want in the first place.

Well, those who DO want that X1000 case and keyboard for their exiting computers (SAM, A1XE, Amithlon/AROS/WinUAE box) will be very happy when I put those items up for sale

Now, where's that website ? Any expeditions going on ? Is everything going acording to schedule ?

Well, it was a nice read, thanks and here's hoping for more informations soon.

Martin

At least some interesting informations. That makes me think that XMOS support in OS4.1 is also no go.

Slightly disappointing that the second CPU core will be left completely idle at first... I know implementing this is a *huge* job (and may also require turning on full memory protection? I remember reading?)... I wonder if Hyperion are actively working on this... I guess it would be a job primarily for Thomas F?

Cool to hear about the branded keyboard and case... don't suppose it would have the old layout though (Help Key anyone?)

Yes... and where is that darned website... how many times can you say 'any day now?'

Trevor has said they want to standardise access to the XMOS early on, which implies it should be available "soon" after the release of the X1000 (if not right away).

Also, SMP for AmigaOS is a hell of a lot harder to implement than porting & customising a few tools (for XCore/Xena). Although depending on the route they take, it *could* still be an involved job (perhaps close to the effort of the Timberwolf port).

OK, that is nice. It means the X1000 should run faster than 1.6GHz (rather than under as I had suspected).

I'm aware of that. SMP was one of my questions after prel. specs where relased. It would be nice to hear from Hyperion about timeframes.

I can not find tool chain tools on XMOS site... googling. OK, found it. IDE is based on Eclipse, so this won't fly. It is stated in requirements that Java is needed. I wonder if that's for IDE/Installer or some dev tools are relaying on it. GDB is a debuger so we can guess you can actually build GCC-xmos on Amiga. Maybe it will be trivial as you say.

HELP key, and ALT and AMIGA in the correct positions (the AMIGA keys should be next to SPACE), with the LED on the CAPS LOCK key itself (Num Lock can be axed completely as far as I'm concerned - I don't know anyone who switches it off). If they can get the layout and design right, I'd buy one of these keyboards no question.

A. The A1-X1000'??s BIOS is the Common Firmware Environment, or CFE.

That's disappointing. I thought it might have a FlashROM containing Kickstart, for faster bootup times.

?@Thread
I wouldn't worry too much about the second core not being supported from the get go, the majority of Amiga software (Page Stream, Hollywood, TuneNet, Audio Evolution, you name it) runs pretty decently on a Sam go Figure on 2Ghz CPU (possible clock, not confirmed of course).
It is no mistery that whatever we have on Amiga today will fly.

More interesting though are (aside from the confirmation that we get get a full package including Amiga Keyboard and Mouse) those hints at future GPGPU apps, and new GFX card driver system that will allow Amiga to get newer HW way sooner than before.

As for SMP, while saying it will not be there from day one, he also confirmed it's coming.

Ton of great news IMHO.

Wait, I've been corrected on Moo and via PM that XCore tools are closed. You'd need to have XMOS developers do a port. I think that was a statement of XMOS employee made in a thread eons ago. Looking for it.

What is CFE ? Is this a general sort of term for Firmware/Bios or is this the Bios developed by Broadcom ? I googled a bit, and found this site:

http://www.linux-mips.org/wiki/Common_Firmware_Environment

There are several systems mentioned where CFE is used, one of them is

P.A.Semi PA6T-1682M, 64-bit dual-core 2GHz PowerPC Electra evaluation board

Is that of any importance ?? Probably not it is 64 bit ... but I am not into that at all...

Absolutely not. The correct pronunciation is A-AON. You pronounce "a" from a phrase like "->a book", "->a train" etc. You must say "a" twice since there is dash between them. Between the two "a" you must have a slight pause. You also pronounce ON like regular English (e.g. the computer is ON). The second "a" must follow "on" without a slight pause of course.

@myself

http://moobunny.dreamhosters.com/cgi/mbmessage.pl/amiga/168870.shtml -- there's a post from someone who has experience with XMOS SDK. Maybe A-Eon signed a deal with XMOS and the closed extensions will be ported. Otherwise, OS X PPC wasn't attractive enough, I wouldn't count on porting effort from XMOS.

Pretty sad that there is will be no SMP support soon. It's really sad, and basically all about i was in hope - introducing of SMP + any addons related to resource tracking and memory protection (in any way). But from other side, even single CPU if it will be 2.000 mgz, it's already not bad.

And why there is no any normal-modern site about ? Again that "amiga" logic :)
