hardware OS4   hardware OS4 : AmigaOne X1000 Beta Test Team and Program

AmigaOne X1000 Beta Test Team and Program

Read more...

You may have read in various interviews that AmigaOS 4.1 has been booting to Workbench on the AmigaOne X1000 hardware for quite some time. We can also confirm that additional Nemo prototypes have been supplied to several OS4 developers to allow them to complete the necessary onboard hardware drivers (SATA, Ethernet and HD sound, USB is already mostly working). Meanwhile a revision 2 version of the Nemo motherboard is being finalised and to ensure we have the widest possible testing we are making 100 Rev 2 motherboards available to Beta testers under a special discount program.

We have received many request from Amigans who wish to join the Beta Test team and these will be processed by Hyperion-Entertainment who are coordinating the Beta Test program in conjunction with A-EON Technology.

@TrevorDick

Questions:

If issues arise with those boards will fixes be done for free? If a rev 3 comes out of the testing will beta testers get that board eventually?

Will prospective buyers have to sign an NDA to learn the details on the CPU before parting with money to get the board?

Is USB almost working at 2.0 speed?

Will the warranty on a "beta" board be different than a final board?

How steep of a discount are we approximately talking about?

Who at Hyperion do interested users contact?

Yes, good questions. We need answers.

Send a beta application to contact@a-eon.com. You will receive further instructions on what to do next along with more information.

Just remenber, if you do join, you will have to sign an NDA, so no one will most likely be able to answer most of the questions about the program anyway.

So there's no drivers yet and it is supposed to be sold before summer? :/

EDIT: might have misinterpreted the news item.

@TrevorDick

Can you answer the remaining questions perhaps?

(I'm figuring my questions are all pretty much the type folks would ask before signing an NDA anyway).

Who told you there were no drivers, don't start rumors. Wouldn't make much sense to start beta testing otherwise. Like most new production runs, we get date slippage, so I wouldn't expect sales to start until Summer.

@sundown

Second that, they do clearly state "additional Nemo prototypes" for developers to "complete" rather than start writing drivers.

Indeed I see this as very good news. With people doubting all the time (understandable considering Amiga hystory as far as new HW is concerned) the fact that they are shipping 100 boards to beta testers is a very good sign for a real product that will launch next summer (and indeed these guys will test actual drivers, otherwise there would be nothing to test).

@DAX

I have to admit that 100 paying beta testers sounds rather ambitious to me.

Yes :)

?@fairlanefastback
Finaly we found the real MAP!

Jokes aside, I believe there might be just enough, never underestimate curious Amigans with deep pockets that would do anything to use the thing (and know everything about it) before anyother...

@Trevor

So the requirements for becoming betatester are:

1) be a developer
2) buy an X1000 board

About point 2. how much does it cost?

Good news. I hope that we'll see it soon.

Can we know what's wrong with the first rev. of the board?.

I don't think so. It sounds more like they want a user base to test the drivers the developers are working on.

Be careful what you wish for!

Since AmigaHeretic is not in the market for this machine and therefore likely will not enter in an NDA with A-EON I doubt his opinion will be much changed.
