| It already has 64bits support with Ext2FS and NTFS, but this one is obviously much more amiga-oriented. |

| Looks intresting, I wonder if this can be used for a bootable partition?
Also:
"IceFileSystem and all its support tools can be downloaded right here, latest version is 1.13. The filesystem itself will start to slow down the more it is used unless there is a keyfile in place. Keyfile costs 10 euro. When 300 of these keyfiles have been sold, IceFileSystem will be released as Freeware. 300 keyfiles to go (since August 14 2010)."

If it's possible to place it in the RDB, then yes, i think can be used for a bootable partition. I haven't tried tho'. But boot.img (the kernel, or the "kickstart" more) must still be on a partition readable by the firmware (FFS, SFS or HFS on a Mac).
About the 300 regs stuff, think of it as kind of a reverse-bounty. The author could said, "if 300 ppl. donate i'll do a 64 bit FS for MorphOS" and start collecting the money first, then the donaters wait for months to have something at their hands. Instead, he did the hard work first, so we really can't complain, I think. :) _________________ MorphOS, classic Amiga, demoscene, and stuff "When a bridge is not enough, build a Viaduct!" Yes, booting system partition works great. Boot image must be on partition supported by firmware though. _________________ Selur erutangis siht

I think such filesystem should be part of OS distribution. However, new features are definitely worth the money. I hope 300 keyfiles will be sold soon. |

HDConfig does not know about IceFileSystem, so use "Filesystem: Custom" and "ID: 0x49434501"
And remember to load filesystem into RDB.
Edit: Load into RDB like this: Click on the magnifying glass next to the harddrive in HDConfig main window. Select "Edit filesystems.." then "Add.." (add L:IceFileSystem here) then insert "1" and "13" for version, revision fields. Let priority, stacksize and patchflags be what they where. Set "Filesystem: Custom" and put "0x49434501" in string gadget. Click "Ok" and Save changes.Last edited by Returner on 15-Aug-2010 at 05:54 PM.

| Ah, I'm using 'Mac' not MBR, I can't see a way to add a filesystem, So, as far I can tell, unusable on a apple based hardware that you wish to dual boot into MacOSX.
I'll try it on my Peg 2... sometime.. _________________ Rage quited 29th May 2011

I don't think Mac's can boot from RDB partitioned disks though so, probably only way to use IceFileSystem there is on a second harddrive.. or someone correct me.
I'll correct myself.. One can also use IceFileSystem on Mac's by using a mountlist (create it with Mounter tool).Last edited by Returner on 16-Aug-2010 at 06:14 PM.

Thanks for that! Got it working on my Peg with RDB, I'll try it with my actual sys: partition. Soon...!
Done it, working... Or seems to be..
Any programs for testing speed? Last edited by Stephen_Robinson on 15-Aug-2010 at 07:50 PM.

| Sounds good. Could be interesting to see benchmarks of IFS vs SFS vs JXFS... I had wondered about using TLSF algorithm for allocating disk space myself, so very interested to see how it performs in practice.
Also seems the author (Leif) is potentially open to porting it to other platforms. And I thought it was cool to see that it was written in E Last edited by ChrisH on 15-Aug-2010 at 09:23 PM.

It should be possible mount partitions manually so RDB is not strictly needed. But we will see... last time I tried OSX it had autoreboot option enabled so nothing to lose there _________________ Amiga Developer Amiga 500, Efika, Mac Mini and PowerBook

| Nice ! Seems to be on par with filesystems like ext4...
Anyone knows the filesize limit ? And what about the subdirectories limit (if there's any, I'm not sure what "No limit in # of files/dirs in partition/dirs." means) ?
Oh, and any word on MOS-Team embracing it as the official "preferred" MOS filesystem ? Last edited by Leo on 16-Aug-2010 at 08:17 AM.
