Hardware News   Hardware News : Christmas Gifts from Elbox
   posted by DJS on 24-Dec-2010 10:23:12 (5795 reads)
Elbox Computer wishes Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all Amiga users!

For a Christmas Gift, Elbox will release the new pci.library, which allows to use the PCI gfx cards' memory (Voodoo 3/4/5 and Radeon 9000/9200/9250) as Amiga system memory also for users of Mediators for A1200. The minimum hardware requirement for this feature is an Amiga 1200 computer with any A1200 Mediator model (1200, ZIV, 1200LT2, 1200LT4, 1200SX, 1200TX), a turbo card based on 68030 with MMU and the Voodoo 3 or Radeon 9200 gfx card. In case of the Radeon gfx card the new drivers enable adding even up to 250 MB of DDR400 SDRAM to the A1200 system memory!

For Amiga 3000 and 4000 users, Elbox extends the bundle offer till the end of the year for the Mediator PCI busboards for A3000 and A4000 computers with a special 5V-only version of the Mobility Radeon 9200 gfx card with 256MB of fast
SGRAM memory.

If you plan on purchasing any Elbox products in near future, do it by the end of this year. With the New Year, prices for most of them (Mediators, FastATA, memory expansions, etc.) will go up about 30%. This will be due to much higher costs of the components used in the production. Most of the necessary connectors and 5V CPLD chips are now very difficult to acquire and much more expensive than ever before.

Thankyou very much for the offer.

But I want some update info on BOTH your DRAGON 1200 project & your SHARKPPC project.

Please create an ENGLISH video demonstration of your DRAGON 1200 in the near future.

...and Elbox can forget about their new costumers.

Mediator is worth if you have PPC card.
Considering OS 4.1 for classics I think that someone will produce some PPC cards.

Best for Elbox is to remove Shark and Dragon pages and banners and rise credibility in eyes of potencial costumers if they don't or can't wanna produce it.

So what will be Elbox?

Dragon was a failure (ran about the speed of a 33mhz 040, I think someone said) and SharkPPC was rebadged Sonnet PCI accelerator cards for older Apple Macintosh systems that could never properly work in an Amiga due to the way they take over CPU duties.

Well, today I installed AROS, and I have to tell about it. I post it from that machine now.

Elbox is waaay out of time, and 30% higher for Mediator next year? Who will buy it anyway?

I suggest Elbox to speak with Natami team and do some businnes with them.

But I want to thank them for their work in past years (even comunication with customes could be better) and whish them Merry Christmas!

Sounds great. What is the actual speed though, or can A1200 access the memory at full "chip speed"?

Weren't they also responsible for the CD32 Pro Module?

That one even made it to a magazine for review before not being produced!

All I know that price of Mediator is about 100 euros higher and if you compare with this price on start of sale
[url=http://www.elbox.com/news_08_02_22.html]
and curent price
[url=http://eu-shop.elbox.com/cgibin/shop?info=210M12T&sid=207a84ff]
then it is 50% not 30 % like they annonced...
I think this is the final batch of boards, couple more drivers for Radeons with 512 MB to sale rest of stock and bye bye..

The end of game they played for 10 years with annoncements of SharkPPC and Dragon Coldfire!

Elbox deny my words and explain your false marketing and why you dont want to remove fake banners!?!
