Right, but for these, it's easy to have an extension converting Flash to HTML5 on the fly, anyway. That's what i do for OWB with the help of a userscript extension, which gives access to all Youtube videos in HTML5, except for the ones in channels (but it should be possible to support them too).

As an aside, for Youtube, you can opt to have the videos in html5 where they can, by opting into the trial at http://www.youtube.com/html5.

We're not able to give time estimates, but I would guess that we will be able to come up with the next preview version sometime in early summer.

Firefox 4.0 on windows still has rendering issues, ie, stuff that should be in the background is at the front and overdrawing where it shouldn't be etc.

I like the sound of that, does it take much time to convert flash to HTML5? When you say "on the fly" how does it work in practise? Say that I visit ign.com for example (or any site with flash videos) do I choose some menu option from the browser? Or does it only work with Youtube at the moment?

Anyway, I'm begining to feel good about being an Amiga user again with all nice things coming up. I wish that I could run MOS or at least try it out. Maybe it'll become available for my PowerMac one day.

It works that way:

the userscript (a javascript extension, which could also be used with greasemonkey on firefox) extracts the direct links to the video files (flv, mp4 in different quality and so on), then it delete the flash object from DOM and replaces it with a video src="direct video link" instead, which makes it use the builtin HTML5 video player.

The script also adds direct links for the different video formats below.

In practice, it looks like that:

And of course for other sites, it only works if someone bothers writing a script able to retrieve the direct link (which is not always trivial) and replace the flash object. But it's a good solution for youtube anyway.

The one thing about html5 video is that you need to have the correct codec installed. FF supports ogg and webm natively, but the Mozilla foundation have stated they're morally opposed to H.264 and have no plans to include it. Will TW include support anyway via eg the x264 library?

its good and all that but i wish we would just get an updated Ibrowse instead ;)

anyways i got used to OWB (even though i try to use IB with my main stuff) so i guess i will get used to timberwolf too eventually.

MUI-OWB is an updated IBrowse! It has all of IBrowse's features and looks and more. MUI-OWB is nothing like RA-OWB which is basically only a window displaying a homepage.

I also use IB for all Amiga stuff and google searches etc. Only tougher sites like facebook and online store I use RA-OWB.

I use RA-OWB exclusively. Partly due to IB tending to crash on start-up (despite trying different things).
