Software News   Software News : AmigaOS 4.1 Update 4
   posted by zerohero on 18-Oct-2011 20:56:15 (10745 reads)
Text from Hyperion Entertainment Blog:

Quote:

Just a quick note to say the development and testing teams are working on AmigaOS 4.1 Update 4 right now.

Several issues identified in Update 3 and earlier are being addressed thanks to direct customer feedback via Hyperion's support forum. A huge thanks to all those that have taken the time to register and post your bug reports! AmigaOS can only get better with direct customer feedback so keep it coming.

Along with the usual assortment of bug fixes, there may well be a surprise or two as well.

Glad to hear those who paid for OS 4.1 will get a new bugfix and maybe even some new feature ... and then up to OS 4.2

Please make this a bootable iso, so you dont have to first install os 4.1 and then manually update.

Otherwise good news indeed.

@tomas

Agree 100% this time an ISO is really must needed, expecially remembering all problems comes with the latest update 3 :-/

Also installing 3 separated updates above a plain AmigaOS 4.1 Update 1 (Update 2, then 3 and finally 4) would be a bit messy ..

I had no problems installing update 3 over my old update 2 partition. I even forgot to make a backup before doing so. Came to think about it while it was installing.

I've never had any problems installing any of the updates. That is, until Update 3 came along. It took me weeks to get it to work correctly. In the end I think the problems were unique to my partitions and drive set up and not to the archive.

Well i got almost 2 problems after a quick installation of the update 3

- A bad freeze on a couple of screensavers (that was solved reinstalling all from scratch)
- An incompatibility with the MUI config, this one create many many problems

It works fine here as well, but it is a lot of extra hassle compared to having a updated iso on one cd.

@Moxee

I had about 2 weeks trouble with Update 3 as well but my problem was my Radeon 9250, once removed Update 3 installed straight away.

Great news.
So far though I`ve not had any problems with u3 and even took my A1 XE G4 to my local camera club and used it to display images through a projector for a competition and was solid as a rock all evening.
Like to see u4 as both iso and install update from file like u3.
Will definitely be buying 4.2 when it arrives.
Andy.

Actually my Update 3 installed nicely, but when booting up it was somehow using the old kickstart files from an older installation on another partition. Thus, USB was not working.

I never did find out why this was happening. I even bought a new HD and installed Update 1, 2, and 3 in order several times with hard reboots between them and still it loaded the wrong kickstart. I got the correct kickstart to load by a relentless process of elimination.

It still will not boot from a SATA HD. I have to use the PATA and I wish I knew why it was happening.

I guess this Update 3 stuff is all Off Topic. Better get back to the subject of Update 4.

Good news Looking forward to Update 4.

My system has been very stable with Update 3, however, I have been running with my hard drive in PIO mode for almost a year now and rear USB ports disabled since Update 1, so that I can boot from CD. I also have SWAP disabled, screen blanker disabled and compositing effects disabled.
