Amigaworld.net News   Amigaworld.net News : Server outage
   posted by sibbi on 16-Jan-2012 18:09:42 (4726 reads)
Hey there people,

We suffered some kind of issue yesterday morning which caused the server to become unresponsive, I haven't had time to look at exactly what went on, but I'll dig into it and see if it's something that we can prevent in the future.

Davey had the server rebooted after which the server did not come back up. The issue was a simple misconfiguration with regards to networking which caused the network interface to not be brought on line and the server was therefore not reachable.

After running a rescue procedure and then getting console access to the server, I was able to fix the error and bring the server back online.

We apologize for the extended outage

@Sibbi

I noticed these posts on Amiga.org today:

Post#s 13-15

Any known issues in U.K., France, Finland as these posts indicate?

@thread

If these were temporary, please post that is the case.

@Number6

I have made a small post over there. The devs here have been overhauling our security, including the encryptions used on the password database. This now employs a much stronger method of encryption as well as including salting.

As a by product, it may need the caches to be cleared completely before logging in works as expected - but there may additionally be a few issues that crop up in real world usage.

@all

While we have taken step to mitigate problems using the site, if any do crop up, please let one of us know so that it can be looked into.

@_Steve_

Saw it earlier. Thanks.

On another site they've locked the thread, so I can't add your new info there, sorry.
