| Tell me which tests to run and where to get them from and I will run them as soon as I complete the installation of Debian Squeeze Linux PPC on my X1000 later today (Laker's basketball game on now, so the Linux install will have to wait)
I also have a dual 2.7GHz G5 PowerMac and a dual 2.0GHz G5 PowerMac (currently missing a hard drive and RAM) that I can install Debian Linux PPC to do comparison tests.
I can also install Debian Linux PPC on my dual 1.42GHz G4 PowerMac, to see how it compares against the X1000.
All these benchmark tests are not really relevant to OS4.1.5 use, as the X1000 is clearly the fastest computer designed to run OS4.x, so it does not matter if a G4, or G5 PowerMac can run Linux benchmarks faster, or as fast as the X1000, as the G4 and G5 PowerMac's do NOT run OS4.x.
For people who are interested in running OS4.x on the fastest available hardware, the choice is clear....... buy an X1000! _________________ Amiga! The computer that inspired so many, to accomplish so much, but has ended up in the hands of . . . . . . . . . .

Thanks amigadave, I could not have said it better myself.
Although I'm not really a Linux fan, I have tried hard to like it over the past few years. Debian is well supported by a large free software base (over 30,000 titles) and allows AmigaONE X1000 owners to run software not available under AmigaOS 4. eg Open Office, LibreOffice etc, etc.
But for fun I prefer running the AmigaOS.

Yeah, cool ! For first just the x1000-debian tests will be enough, but making the same tests later on the powerpcas with the same debian installed on (the same version, the same settings), will be also pretty intersting to know.
For the tests:
1. Blender
Download version 2.48 (only that one, not newer, or older). And run it like this: Quote:
blender -b bricks_and_water_plugin.blend -o pool -F JPEG -f 0
|
and put result here
2. mplayer
That can be latest one i assume, and run it like this: Quote:
mplayer -benchmark -nosound -ao null -vo null -lavdopts skiploopfilter=none
|
and put results here
3. Lame
Just get the latest version of mame, download AKsack.wav there
and just run it like:
Quote:
and put results here.

Of course they not. But some of us just want to know the real speed of the x1000. Because as we know aos4 are limited here and here, beta here and here, but linux instead matured enough. So, by benchmarking on the unixes , we will see the real speed of the x1000 as hardware, and so, we can know what we can expect to be updated and changes in the terms of speed on os4 someday. _________________ Join us to improve dopus5! zerohero's mirror of os4/os3 crosscompiler suites

| Awesome news! One of the benefits of having this running is to be able to see what Linux does in hardware drivers, peeking device registers and such things, to help guide development of AmigaOS driver development. _________________ All glory to the Hypnotoad!

Omg. How can you stop someone to do benchmarking ? (and why you even worry about?) Sounds really strange should to say.. It's ok that it was used for tests on windows and morphos, but not on linux ?
@amigadave
Exclude blender from tests then, or let's find out other test plugin. I think someone else will point you on other one.Last edited by kas1e on 18-Apr-2012 at 03:51 AM. Last edited by kas1e on 18-Apr-2012 at 03:50 AM.

| Also linux kernel compilation (or some other heavy & multihtreadable project) test would be nice to see. (high memory bandwidth and large L2 should help in that test to keep both cores busy) _________________ - KimmoK // For freedom, for honor, for AMIGA // // Thing that I should find more time for: CC64 - 64bit Community Computer?

No it's not okay for benchmarking on any OS. It's an example of how to use the plugins provided with the amiga port. If you want to do yet more pointless benchmarks find your own ip to use.
Anyway it won't work on standard installs of blender as it needs non standard plugins. _________________ BroadBlues On Blues BroadBlues On Amiga Walker Broad

Nobody can stop anyone to use anything for benchmark. Simply there is NO such a thing like a LEGAL OR MORAL limit about that.
But the attitude and some of the responses to this thread are really surprinsing and I would add they are just another grain in the mountain of dust that is covering the dying of the platform. |

Aha got it. Can you suggest some other plugin which can be more or less ok for tests ?

Use the test.blend from the other benchmarking threads, it designed as a benchmark. I can't find the link.

Whether you think there is a legal or moral limit is irelavent, the blend file is not designed as a benchmark, and will not work properly unless someone takes the time to find and build linuxPPC version of the plugins it designed to demonstrate, and so it will give distoerted results (it'll probably appear faster than it should, or it might simply fail, I'm not sure which) and I would rather it were not misused in that way. _________________ BroadBlues On Blues BroadBlues On Amiga Walker Broad
