Amigaworld.net News   Amigaworld.net News : Cinnamon Writer 0.9 is released
posted by Desler on 5-May-2013 10:29:20 (3753 reads)
Cinnamon Writer is now available for AmigaOS4 and MorphOS computers, with an AROS version in the pipeline.
Cinnamon Writer is a native WYSIWYG word processor developed especially for Amiga and Amiga-like systems. It features advanced layout options, spell checking, advanced undo/redo options, restoring of lost documents and DocX compatibility, allowing for compatibility with mainstream word processors of other platforms.
The biggest news of this version is the complete rewrite of the GUI system taking advantage of the MUI interface. Other improvements include a new memory and indexing system allowing you to work on very big documents on machines with only little memory. A restoring system will back up your document every 5 minutes, and if you experience a crash or inadvertently power off your Amiga before saving, Cinnamon Writer will restore your last session. (Please click read more.)

A lot of features have been added, some that might not be obvious for the user, but the framework allowing future versions of Cinnamon Writer will include the integration of images and tables.
This version of Cinnamon Writer will be the first available for MorphOS users. This could not be done without the help of Will Morris who were so generous as to donate a MorphOS machine for the development.
This version of Cinnamon Writer will be the most thoroughly tested to date thanks to people like Kas1e, Joel Edberg and many more. However, that doesn't mean that we have found *all* the bugs, and I sincerely hope you will help me with bug-reports when/if you find them so I can make the future versions even more stable.
Cinnamon Writer was tested by a small number of MorphOS users, but because I have only gotten back a handful of completed reports, I have decided to publish this version as a beta. It has exactly the same features as the AOS4 version.
Cinnamon Writer will not be released at this time for AROS, as I have problems with the MUI to Zune conversion. It is being worked on and I will make an announcement when I have something ready for download.

Please enjoy and consider a donation if you find this software useful.

Is there a way to actually print or saving as PDF with Cinnamon Writer?
Or is it still on the "To-Do-List"?

Thanks & great there's progress,
nexus

@ nexus:

There's a menu item "export as pdf" already, unfortunately without that promised function but a message pdf saving will come later, hence I assume it's a safe bet it is on the to do list.

Humm, perfect, I downloaded the MorphOS version and I though that 0.90 was the current version and it works perfect in this system, now I'll dowload the AmigaOS4 version to tested. Thanks Desler for this update!

Hi everybody

I hope you enjoy this new version. Short answer in regards to the pdf export / printing. I am currently rewriting this module to offer more modern functionality (multiple pages on one page, duplex printing and so on). I could not implement it in this version but it will follow shortly. In regards to bugs. Please report them here or mail me. Don't worry if I don't answer you back right away, I am having a small family crisis that will take all my time the next couple of days, but Ill be back after that. Because of the same reason, I would really appreciate if you could help me spread the word about the release on especially morphOS sites

I had wondered if silence meant Cinnamon Writer was dead, but I'm glad to hear it was just due to it being heavily tested . Based upon earlier experience, the most needed feature of Cinnamon Writer was stability!

Great!

Fast on the 440ep.
A little note:
Sometimes changing the back/fore colour doesn't work.

Nice Work

Thanks for the update, good to see the program developed further!

I don't seem to be able to enter non-ASCII characters; are they not supported yet, or do I have to set it up somewhere, somehow?

He probably means other than iso 8859-1/15 codesets. CW does not work with ISO 8859-2 properly and I'm unable to use polish special characters (ALT+char)...erm, quite important

Edit: MOS version has the same problem.

I see. Does anyone know how to utilize the 8859-1/15 code set? I check for IDCMP_VANILLAKEY and then read the key value from Userport-> Code, but that is apparently not enough. If anyone have any example code that can be used I would be able to implement this rather quickly - Thanks

Yes, that's what I mean - ISO 8859-2 characters, i.e. the key set as per my locale.

@desler

I think CygnusEd (Edgar Schwan) had to deal with a similar problem in AmiCygnix so you could try asking him.

Thanks. Ill contact him. Am I completely wrong in being surprised that this is not something AOS is responsible for handling?
