2.10 is a higher revision than 2.4, so I guess they got updated?

@amigakit

I probably have missed something, which is the difference between the 2 releases?

The difference between version 1.7 and 2.10 is that the RadeonHD v2.10 has composited accelerated video playback support whereas RadeonHD v1.7 does not.

They both work with A-EON's new 3D driver.

Nice, but is there a changelog from 2.4 to 2.10?

Would be interesting to know since there seems to be no info at all in this announcement what has changed and why I should upgrade from 2.4 to 2.10. (Or from 1.x to 1.7 for that matter.)

Is it new cards (what cards)?
Is it performance enhancements (how much and when)?
Stability enhancements (in what situations)?
New features (what features)?

Thanks.

Nice! Has the forgotten support of RGBFB_R5G6B5PC been added for 4xxx and 5xxx cards?

Sorry, not yet. This release mostly addresses lockups that arose as the W3D_SI driver was optimized further.

Not only is GFX card drivers SOLD separately (should have been included in the OS), the 3D support is ALSO SOLD separately of the drivers (should have been included as well). And nobody feels ashamed!

Are you kidding ?

So it means that the text/picture viewer is sold, the 2D driver is sold, the 3D driver is sold...

Now if only the network stack could be sold as well, we would be back in the nineties :)

Why do Amiga people need to sell and not embrace open source development ?

@Tripos

You think that x86 gfx drivers are free? They aren't.
When you buy a gfx card a cut goes to pay for the gfx drivers. Economies of scale means that this may be a very small amount, but it is still there.

Now if you can just negotiate with AMD to include AmigaOS4 drivers and continued free updates on their install CDs...

I do agree that the version 1.x driver should really be included in the price of the OS4.1 licences, but with the reduced price of the OS4.1FE licences its a bit fairer now for new customers.

Equally I don't have a problem with paying extra for the version 2.x driver to enable composited accelerated video playback or charging for 3D support as a second extra.

That way people only need to pay for the features that they will use so If you want to watch videos on your next gen Amiga but don't use 3D software you can just purchase the version 2.x driver. Equally if you don't view video on your computer as you have a tablet for that you want to be able use 3d software that's fine as well, they have that covered as well.

Hopefully at some point in the future they will roll the v1 driver into the OS as standard as that would be a lot less confusing for new users and make reinstalling more your system easier.

For now lets all just be happy that we can connect and use modern graphics cards with OS4.1 and the developers are being paid so updates can continue.

I have no words .. and sorry but after read this I have no idea in what kind of world some Amiga users are living but I have great difficult to belive that today someone can consider 3D support (and video acceleration) as an optional choice.

These are really basic functionalities of any pretty basic operative system !

Now lets's assume we can accept to pay for, ok but at least they could sell those 2D and 3D drivers in a single package no ?
