software AROS   software AROS : AxRuntime v41.2 Released
posted by deadwood on 5-Apr-2022 8:59:43 (1969 reads)
A new version of AxRuntime is now available! AxRuntime lets developers compile their Amiga API-based applications as Linux programs.

The highlights of release v41.2 are:

1) AROS-Shell, an AmigaDOS-compatible Shell, is now available for you as a native Linux program. You can write DOS scripts and use shell commands to interact with Linux filesystem.
2) AxRuntime becomes a bridge between AROS x86_64 and Linux by allowing running native AROS programs as standalone Linux programs. In this function AxRuntime is similar to Wine. Wine allows running Windows programs on Linux, AxRuntime allows running AROS programs on Linux.

This release comes with 4 applications: AROS-Shell, MPlayer, WookieChat and Final Writer 7 (demo). Additionally AROS x86_64 applications like MUIbase can also be used!

A full change log of this release is available here: https://axrt.org/index.php?tab=releasenotes#AXRT412. To download AxRuntime packages and applications go to https://axrt.org/index.php?tab=download.

If you are interested in using AxRuntime for your projects or even contributing to AxRuntime, please contact me via email or PM on one of the listed sites: https://axrt.org/index.php?tab=community

Below you can see a selection Amiga programs running on a linux desktop. For more screen shots, visit https://axrt.org/index.php?tab=gallery

Don't know about other window managers but in KDE Plasma in window behaviour settings you can add "window rules" to hide window decoration (titlebar, border frame) for certain windows/programs. You can still move/resize/bring to front such windows with alt + mouse buttons.

Looks kinda ugly with double decoration.

From what I gathered some people are not bothered but this, some dislike this. Eventually it will be solved so that only Amiga decorations will be visible.

This won't install on Linux Mint 19.3 because of the dependency on libc6 2.29. (LM 19.3 uses 2.27-3ubuntu1.5.) Is there something in AxRuntime that requires libc6 2.29? If not, I can try a forced install.

The dependencies are auto-generated by debian packaging scripts. I don't recall using anything specific, so please try forcing. It should work.

It seems to require at least glibc 2.28.

Quote:
bison@home ~/Downloads/tmp/MPlayer $ ./gmplayer
./gmplayer: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libm.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.29' not found (required by ./gmplayer)
./gmplayer: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.28' not found (required by ./gmplayer)
bison@home ~/Downloads/tmp/MPlayer $

Indeed MPlayer uses some math functiuns from 2.28. I checked WookieChat and AROS-Shell and they don't seem to need symbols from 2.28 or 2.29.
