Btw. Did you install Debian Woody (the version which came with A1's originally) or Debian Etch (this new one made by Hypex) ?

Make sure the bootargs are set as OS4_Gamer said to and it is in the UBoot menu where you set it.
Now, which install CD, my installer or the Debian CD?
I remember even the A1XE's had a problem with CD scanning. Perhaps disable DMA on the CDROM drive to see if it helps. I don't know if a hdx=nodma type thing will work. You could also try adding ide=nodma to the kernel command line for all drives to have DMA disabled. |

Ok... I done some tests: 1 - reburned a new iso on the cd... 2 - added hda=cdrom hdb=cdrom |
Only specify "cdrom", if the device is really a cdrom. Anything else will just confuse the kernel.

Actually I think this is a Debian Etch issue. Etch is very unstable on my A1XE from time to time and the installation process locked up, too. IIRC a long time ago I installed a testing version of glibc and this made the system a lot more stable. Also the stability of Debian Lenny supports this observation. I guess its time to intensify the work on install CDs for Debian Lenny and Ubuntu._________________ A1SE: G3@600MHz, 2GB, 1GBit network card A1XE: G4@933MHz, 2GB, refitted AC'97 codec microA1: G3@800MHz, 1GB

Yes, if you want a stable system now. But you can upgrade to Debian sarge, if you point apt to the following repository: Quote:

I guess limiting the amount of RAM doesn't help here, as your A1SE has only 512MB RAM.
Quote:
dev/ram ide=reverse hde=noprobe hdf=noprobe video:radeonfb:1024x768@65 |
This should look like this for kernel 2.4.x: Quote:
root=/dev/ram ide=reverse hde=noprobe hdf=noprobe video=radeon:1024x768@65 |
Let's see, if this helps._________________ A1SE: G3@600MHz, 2GB, 1GBit network card A1XE: G4@933MHz, 2GB, refitted AC'97 codec microA1: G3@800MHz, 1GB
