Fine line of difference...but I think people call their attention to things, which they then take a closer look at.
I have no indication that they actually "read" the forums in the way that the user asked. Browsing to me, means more of a regular occurence. They focus more when there are issues of particular interest to them.

TOLD YOU SO

I was glad to see you do so having read the same signs plus
odd hints I had reason to believe. I expect too further
announcements, one at least concerning Acube. Note they
made their own hardware announcement just two days after
the version of uboot they are using was compiled. One
expects some time to elapse before an announcement about
SAM and OS4 comes.

Adam and his beta testers have been testing OS4 on his hardware
for months now, I believe, and ported it himself. At the
very least that may mean a relatively high-end board soon
available. There have been and perhaps still are one or two
other high-end efforts being worked on. The Amiga Inc
announcement, full of spin as usual, still implies movement
on OS4 and licensing issues. I have rather sympathized with
Adam as he has had to find his way from developing some
hardware to satisfying other companies as to his production
and servicing capabilities and arrangements amidst conflict
over an essential element, OS4. Soon we shall see just what
has emerged.

As to all the inuendo, false attribution of motives, mean
minded moral judgements based on make-believe worlds where
fears, uncertainties, doubts are taken as facts, this rubbish
appearing in every thread is no better than malicious gossip
at best suggesting sheer inexperience of the vissicitudes of
life and the conflicts therein. I half expected Adam and others
to simply say "to hell with them" and no doubt they did a few
times. I'm pleasantly surprised that they keep working toward
their objectives despite all the setbacks and arguments to the
contrary. Perhaps there are sufficient people of goodwill who
can read the facts and understand the obstacles and who appear
in these hardware threads too, to make a difference.

I cheer on the people of goodwill. You make problems surmountable,
enable good things to happen.

@NoelFuller

I agree, the SAM440 is still a really "young" system. From what I have read the prototypes have only been successfully booting for the last couple of weeks. I'ts inevitable that more time will be needed until OS4 is ported and running well on that platform (Personally I suspect that they have not even done a large production run yet).

As for ACK, I know Adam was working to produce boards for some time and he may have a reasonable "head start" on producing a running board (with OS4). I hope so and wish him well. Personally I will purchase the following:
1. The first OS4 running board from whatever manufacturer.
2. SAM440 (I prefer OS4 but if it only ran Linux I would still be interested) as I think it is just *Great Hardware* (low power, includes programmable CPU array - way cool).

I do not know what the situation is between Amiga.inc and Hyperion-Entertainment but have not seen anything SPECIFIC that would indicate that they are not both trying to bring products to market (hopefully in cooperation).

More specifically, the partnership between Hyperion-Entertainment and aCube to sell the "legacy" OS4 and Amiga.inc and ACK to bring Adams board to market (I'm assuming some "Vixen" variant) are all reasonable business steps and are not proof of dissent between any of the companies (I trully hope they get this right).

That's my latest $0.02 worth

Darren

Amiga Inc better start listening to what their loyal customers want rather than just trying to be gready. You make money by giving your customers what they want. I want OS4 and I want to see it developed for a desktop system...

No disrespect, but for any reasonably functional company providing what the customer wants isn't a very shrewd move. And putting resources into a new desktop system is brainless -- the technology gap formed in the past 15 years is simply too huge.

There are only a handful of "loyal" customers in the Amiga community and a large proportion lament that they can't afford to buy anything anyway. Add to that the press release feedback in other forums where past users share fond memories but question the sense of reintroducing the platform using abandoned PPC hardware. So who are the "customers"?

The Amiga originally succeeded because it was inexpensive and it empowered a generation that wanted to be different. It appealed to a community that wanted to explore new territories that were never encouraged in the traditional world of number crunching. The remaining (and diminishing) value of the Amiga is now its branding.

Whoever helms the shared office space hasn't capitalized on either level. It isn't even clear that they recognize the opportunities they bought in to in the first place.

My belief is that the most important clue is that Rogue was to work on the contents of a boxed OS4 version ISO. That process is not overnight, but can be measured in days, boxing and printing a few more days following that (if not done beforehand and if booked ahead.

forgive me. but why not just download it and burn it? save time and money perhaps?

Quite right that would be both easy and very much cheaper. I suspect that this is intended to be sold with one or another piece of new HW.

It makes no sense to do this for existing AmigaOne owners.

I dare say, from what was said, existing owners may well be able to download and burn.

@ackcontrls

Over at amiga.org there's a very interesting email from someone who claims to be Bill McEwen, which I imagine refers to your partnership with Amiga Inc. Would you mind taking a peek and letting us know if the email is likely valid or fake?

[edit] Sorry, I'm being rude. My condelences for your loss. I lost a close friend earlier this year, so I have some idea of what you must have gone through.

Some of us are hit hard with the death of a family member and become inward for a time afterward. My Father took ill in early August 1999 while I was road breaking an MG of which I had just overhauled the engine and transmission. I broke the car in by driving it down the Pacific Coast Highway from Washington into California and over to Sacramento for AmiWest. The first day I was in Sacramento I received a call to come home quickly. I made it back to Washington in time to see my Father, but a day later he died. My Father was a Chevrolet mechanic. We had long discussions about how to proceed with the MG. Without my Father around the whole car thing was just not any fun any longer. At less than 2,000 miles I placed the MG into storage and there it still sits closing in on 8 years later.

You see folks, some of us take these deaths hard. I've been healthy, but lost all interest in my sports car club and my car. I don't know if I will ever get that interest back.

As for Adam, he seems to be coming out of his silence. Let's not force him back into it, please.

EDIT:
I think I posted this into the wrong thread. Oh well, I am going to leave it.

for either user it will be much better, most companies are doing that anyway. how about preinstalling the system on configed machines? or do motherboards with a cd combo? and give all the support from a www page. manual etc.

the most expensive in making those boxes are, hehe, boxes and the manual. it's not the cd itself. forget the print. just roll them out NOW.

I may not post much but I read the forums every day, and I'm still surprised the big guys aren't reading these forums. and if they do they're not good readers.

It seems that there is in-fact a silly "arms race" occurring between Hyperion-aCube and Amiga.in-ACK... Sigh

Shocking development

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE work this out like adults....
