@Rob

Yeah...I would have to replug my old R9250 to another slot, pull off a music card
...and sometimes "detecting" is not enough.

I have a Radeon HD 7870 wich I acquired years ago to use with my Sam 440ep flex.

As far I understand this is supported by Warp 3D nova and original Warp 3D

Yes. The Warp3D driver for SI cards is a separate purchase.

A little late to this news, but it's been my goal to have a Warp3D (Nova) capable card in the Sam440-Flex. It doesn't seem to be happening yet though.

Updated UBoot with no issue to 1.3.1g, verified at boot and using Ranger.

My experience so far (using a PCI to PCIe adapter and cable where applicable):

Working

Radeon 9250 PCI - Works as expected regardless of update
Radeon HD 6850 - Works as expected, but isn't compatible with Warp3D Nova

Non-Working

Radeon HD R7 250 - UBoot, kickstart loading succeeds, screen blanks and nothing more
Radeon HD R9 280X - UBoot, kickstart loading succeeds, screen blanks and nothing more
Radeon RX 570 - No UBoot and nothing further

Waiting for a period of time, there are no system sounds for any of the non-working cards, so I'm assuming it's what been described as a hard lock in other posts.

Anyone have any thoughts on what to try next?

@Bradsco

You have not indicated if you have installed the RadeonHD and RadeonRX drivers .
you also have to double check that the cards included in your kicklayout file .

MODULE Kickstart/RadeonHD.chip
MODULE Kickstart/RadeonRX.chip

There is no U-Boot display with the Radeon Rx cards.
The batch of cards you have above may also not be the most compatible with the Sams .
RadeonHD R7-2xx based on Oland chipset are problematic.
For RX series RX550 & RX560 are most compatible .
I have used these ok with a Sam460ex .

Cards tested with Sam460ex

@Spectre660

Sorry, yes I have the Radeon HD (3.7) and Radeon RX (1.11) drivers installed and added to the kicklayout file.

It was mentioned elsewhere that this specific Radeon HD R7 250 worked for someone in the Sam460, but again someone else had trouble with it.

I've also been looking through the compatibility list for hints.

What brand/models of 550 and 560 did you have luck with?

I know they're different machines, but for what it's worth all the cards work in the X5000.

@Bradsco

Might be worthwhile to hook up a serial debug cable to another computer .

If your R7-250 uses the Verde chip set then it probably should work.
If it uses the Oland chip set then it probably wont .

The serial debug output might show were the problem is .

The compatibility list is way out of date and none of the Radeon HD's would have worked with the Sam440ep at that time .

Most RadeonHD and RX cards will work with the X5000 but not all will work with the Sams . for me the Radeon Rx cards have a better chance of working with the Sams but I think in beta testing only RX550 and RX560 may have been tested thus far.

Remember my current usage is with the Sam460ex so mileage may vary.

I was able to use my Sam440ep-flex with a HD6670 but that was 5 years ago.
Tested a Radeon HD7750 but would not work then.

Working for me with Sam460ex

Rx550 #1 (Polaris) (Sapphire B06ZY7CJF4)

Rx550#2 (Polaris) (Yeston B07VYR2L43) (Single Slot)

Rx560 (Polaris) (Asus STRIX-RX560-4G-GAMING)

@Spectre660

Yeah, I know there's no guarantee a card will work in both machines but I appreciate the info. I've read most everything on the topic on the various forums over the years, and I definitely defer to your experience.

I will say that the RX570 does work in the X5000, but I did experience issues. Some of the demo apps from the SDK work perfectly such as the logo. But the triangle had fill issues and the texture cube actually killed the workbench so it needed a reboot.

I'd also like to see if there's any good info in the Sam debug output, so I'll be checking that out over the weekend.

Thanks again!

There are known issues with the RX570 and RX580 ,

I'm interested in this subject too.

https://www.amigans.net/modules/xforum/viewtopic.php?topic_id=8370&forum=3

My PEX8112 adapter is on the way.
Hmmm, the firmware update is a new thing. Maybe you need a new, more compatible, RadeonHD/RX driver? It will be part of upcoming ES2.0, probably.
Thats why I'm suggesting to release a lite version of the HD/RX driver.

Somebody is going to have to do the legwork.
for the Radeon Rx that means paying for the full drivers to do the testing .
Maybe buying or borrowing card also.
Plus providing serial debug logs when thing dont work .

Information about what model cards work and dont work for the Sam460ex will
help narrow down what to try.

Radeon RX550 & RX560 ar the most likely to work for newish cards.
If you can get you hands on a Radeon HD7750 ,HD7770 or R7-250X these might work .

@Bradsco

Try enabling/disabling the 'External PCI gfx IRQ' setting in the u-boot video menu, and try increasing 'x86 BIOS emulator' accuracy

Sure, in a perfect world it would be AEon/ACube. Boundle the working adapter, GPU and Enhancer and sell as a working/tested product
But we live in a world where mobo production takes 7 years and don't see updates to OS for years. Thats why I don't want to take a risk and spend 200$ for a GPU and the driver just to discover it won't work. I may borrow HD7750, probably or mayby sth else but surly need some help (Lite driver, limited to 800x600). Update-done, adapter-done. Now I'll see what kind of support we will get

I believe that I was the only A-Eon beta tester using the Sam440ep-flex & adapter.
But my Sam440ep-flex died about 5 years ago.
So cant help with current hands on info.

@m3x

I haven't found my serial cable for debugging yet, but I did source another R7 250. With two different R7 250's, all combinations of the boot settings stalled once the screen blanked after kickstart.

Need to find that cable. Anyone know if I there's a serial terminal app for OS 4.1? Would be cool to get the debug info on the X5000.

I don't mind doing the legwork at all. I've got a pretty healthy collection of video cards anyway. A few more won't hurt.

Just in case you didn't know, I wrote with help of Lyle a big article a few years ago called "advanced serial debugging guide": https://wiki.amigaos.net/wiki/Advanced_Serial_Debugging_Guide

There all the stuff about how to build the cable, what kind of cable, how to use terminal apps (include the usage of 68k version of TERM on amiga), all the tips and tricks and how-to setup output to serial and of what levels, etc. Can help when first time with with all this.

I think only the R7-250E and R7-250X versions will have a chance of working from the various R7 offerings. So you are looking for 512 or 640 Stream Processors versions with GDDR5 not 320 with DDR3.

I didn't know, and it's great to have that thank you. Found the cable as well.
