| whoops..
I saw this thread at morphzone, and read that he had posted a status update.. but that was an old message. I misread the date on his homepage too when I visited it. This is the new post from yesterday, that made that thread come to the front page on morphzone:
Quote:
Since about 3 weeks i'm working full-time on it and it is possible that there will be site-update this month (but none knows how many stupid bugs i'll find before this beast will be in a shape allowing me to do write some status-update so be prepared that 'this month' could turn into november 2041 |
sorry about that guys!Last edited by jahc on 26-Jul-2006 at 03:40 AM.

| A few may not have seen it or don't even know about this project, so it's good to sometimes "wave the flag" and bring attention to it again...

| still, this is awesome news.
Big kudos for porting this to MorphOS/AmigaOS.
I hope donations are welcome in the future as it certainly is in place for such even now, imagine later . _________________ See my blog and collection website! . https://www.blog.amigaguru.com

| Sputnik won’t be open source and free. You have to pay for it about 49 EURO. First version will be for MorphOS. AmigaOS4 version is possible only if Marcik be able to obtain AOS4 enabled hardware or AOS4 for Pegasos. AmigaOS3 version requires heavy financial donation to convince him to do it (uae users time to spend some money). Sputnik is probably temporary name for this project. |

| Well I don't think anyone would complain about paying 49 Euros for a modern browser which will support CSS and load most pages correctly. |

How will that actually work in practice? If this is to be used as the basis for a new browser (aweb?), do we need to purchase/register Sputnik, in the same way we do with MUI? _________________ Peter Swallow. A1XEG3-800 [IBM 750FX PowerPC], running OS4.1FE, using ac97 onboard sound.

Not that I mind paying for a good browser but.. How can Marcik keep the source closed? His source is based on an open sourced (GPL) version. _________________ /Harry

Who cares about "Sputnik"?
It's the MOS source of KHTML we are waiting for, we don't need a GUI frontend with a shiny name, we already have AWeb...
Marcik does a great job there |

| Sputnik is the name of whole thing: khtml, gui and code which let it all work together. AWeb is useless as a gui because it does not use Mui. Mui is required by Marcik’s khtml port. Making gui is the funniest and the easiest task so AWeb has really nothing to offer except its ugliness as an example of bad gui design. |

Says who?
From the bounty page: Quote:
Licence: LGPL+ (+ means some BSD licensing as well)

I've never heard Marcik say anything about "49 Euros".
BTW, AWeb, forgetting the fact that I absolutely hate its current ClassAct form, will move to MUI. Its current (crappy) interface is due to the fact that it uses ClassAct. Making a browser to use the KHTML engine might not be as hard as porting the engine itself but it's non-trivial, which can be proved by the number of CRAPPY browsers using the Mozilla and KHTML engines around. _________________

Ugly?
When did you use AWeb the last time?
It's like using MUI without a custom theme, you can throw up on it, right. But as soon as you customize OS4's Reaction it looks like you want it to look like. For me AWeb looks and is far more advanced and much nicer to work with than e.g. IBrowse.
Well, i think we can agree that tastes are different...
@AMIGR
Yeah, wasn't AWeb APL (w/o Light) the one going to be MUI based on KHTML? |

| Am I talking about Reaction and Mui configuration? The case is design of AWeb gui. Anyway there will be no khtml sources so AWeb won’t use it. |

Yeah, you said so earlier, so ... care to share some links, or are you just trolling?
Links to the 49 Euro thing and links to the "There are no sources!", please |
