| Great job!
There is short text on Netsurf websiteabout hardware requiremenets
Quote:
Lean requirements From a modern monster PC to a humble 30MHz ARM 6 computer with 16MB of RAM, the web browser will keep you surfing the web whatever your system. |
Any idea how usable it can be on 68k system lets say 060/50 and 64-128MB of RAM? |

| @elwood There is a bug tracker linked from http://www.netsurf-browser.org
If you think it is related only to the OS4 port you can log it at http://www.unsatisfactorysoftware.co.uk/bugs
Sometimes NetSurf shows an assert - because the process has terminated you have to be very careful not to click on the NetSurf window as it will lock up (probably an Intuition deadlock of some sort). Flipping back to the WB screen may show an error in a console window. If not, try running it from the Shell and again be very careful not to click on the window after it goes.
@MichaelMerkel Run it on a 32-bit screen - alpha doesn't work properly on lower depths. _________________ "Miracles we do at once, the impossible takes a little longer" - AJS on Hyperion Avatar is Tabitha by Eric W Schwartz

| This version sadly does not work very well for me. It starts up in a new screen with a small window but instantly freezes if i try to resize it. I did not have this problem with previous version.
This is on a Sam running OS4.1 |

68060 50 MHz is (more than) two times faster than 30 MHz ARM610... but I don´t think it is enough for modern web browsing. Maybe there are some Risc OS users who have experience with NetSurf on preStrongARM computers? |

| Seems to be doing fine here. Tried both versions of the executable in hope that one would have smoother scrolling, but it didn't. Good release still. _________________ Common sense - So rare it's almost like a super power

| This is good other Amiga browser in the championship for the best Amiga browser but we need besides of many browsers that these can show CSS, javascript and Flash, because other languages we can wait, for example php, etc. |

As if any support from browser was needed to "handle" PHP... :) PHP is handled on server side. The client just receives standard html/js/whatever that a client browser can deal with. |

Send me a crashlog... actually, don't - send me an email and I'll send you a debug build which might produce a crashlog with some useful information in it. _________________ "Miracles we do at once, the impossible takes a little longer" - AJS on Hyperion Avatar is Tabitha by Eric W Schwartz

| Anyone tried this version yet on OS4 classic?
I seem recall the last release was quite slow, even with a 604e, clocked @ 233Mhz _________________ 4000T/BFG9060 CD32/Elsat ProModule, TF360 CD32/ Edu's CD32 <> A1200 Adapter, Vampire V2 CD32/ FMV Module

| seems the amiupdate autoinstall script did NOT install the new version correctly... i was reminded just again that an update is available and rerun it. still not the newest version installed. so i copied by hand. the main executable was not updated!
seems to be better now!

Thanks for mentioning that - the reason is the executable names don't match (you'll find NetSurf_Cairo in the original install location). NetSurf_Cairo needs to be renamed to NetSurf, replacing the existing NetSurf executable.
I've fixed the script, I'll get the archive updated. _________________ "Miracles we do at once, the impossible takes a little longer" - AJS on Hyperion Avatar is Tabitha by Eric W Schwartz

| Doesnt seem too bad so far, but images had little black squares next to them. Also the text input was reading charactors too fast, thus duplicate chars.
btw im on OS4.0 on AmigaOneXE-512mb Last edited by TheAMIgaOne on 25-Apr-2009 at 07:46 PM.

I have renamed NetSurf_Cairo, and now I get an Elf Library error "Failed to load shared object libmng.so.1"
edit---
Digging deeper the sobjs are not copied accross, nor the changelog. I have copied them manually, and netsurf now locks up my system, eveytime ???????Last edited by Swoop on 25-Apr-2009 at 08:14 PM.

| Posting from amigaworld with NetSurf 2.0 Cairo version. On this site, all news items appear as black retangles. Only links are visible within the news items. Forums appear to be ok.
As I found on amiga.org and amigaworld, there is no outline around the text entry area as I am typing this post. Seems to work ok though.
Also noticed that the post comment button is inactive on three amiga related sites. I have to reply to someone else's post.
Cheers, thanks for the effort guys. This web browser is coming along quite nicely.

| Thanks for this peace of software for AOS4!
Unfortunately I cannot install NetSurf since the installer tells me that there is an error in line 212 according to an incompatible type at CHOICES:
This part of the script deals with the AISS installation.
I had one some time ago and maybe removed it incompletely!
But how can I get NetSurf installed in order to test it?
Many thanks in advance! |
