| Nice news!!

Yes the concept is: modular. Need a better gfx card? Plug a gfx card |
Problem is that almost each and every AmigaOS4 user needs more than 64Mb and therefore need a GFX card added to the price _________________

| Indeed it comes with pci express so you can plug a modern gfx card.
Silicon Motion SM502 embedded MoC --> is used for both and video.
They did this to keep the board relatively cheap (considering Amiga market), for some users SM502 will be enough for video and audio, if not you can plug the rest.
We are talking of cheap expansions cards anyway. Example --> ebay link, hd2400 xt 256MB Last edited by ikir on 02-Apr-2010 at 09:11 PM.

| For someone with a recently fried/repaired A1XE 800MHz, which I am still trying to get working, this is very good news indeed. If I end up needing to get a new system that is reasonably priced, I will have a choice of entry level (667 Mhz), mid-entry level (733-800 MHz), or mid level (1 GHz).
As others have already said, the 64MB graphics issue is no big problem. Considering the new SAM460 has PCIe for graphics expansion cards, more than likely using the newly developed R700 driver, the SAM 460 can have much better graphics than any existing A1 or SAM440 system. _________________ I sold my SAM460ex lite... waiting for money to buy a Raspberry Pi... or a Classic A1000 with Buffee... or an A1222... and OS4.3 FE update 11

How do you connect up more than 1 SATA device with this? |
Hopefully we'll see drivers for PCI-Express plugin cards for SATA with multiple ports. The issue here is that the x1 PCI-Express controller and the SATA controller are muxed to the same package pins. See the SOC block diagram, bottom center.
https://www.appliedmicro.com/MyAMCC/retrieveDocument/PowerPC/460EX/PPC460EX_PB2027.pdf
If we can use a PCI-Express card, then we should be fine with multiple SATA ports. I'm guessing there will be some tiny PCB included that plugs into the PCI-Express x1 slot to give the SATA connector, but little if anything else on this tiny widget.
Since XE can boot from certain PCI cards, it should certainly be doable. _________________ All glory to the Hypnotoad!

| Really good news for people that they'll cannot afford an Amiga X1000 in a couple of months. For the rest, I don't think that this board will have any chance (compare to the forthcoming Amiga X1000).
Great work although from Acube. _________________

1 - 64 mb was really too low for wb use...we need at least 128, any chache to get 128mb for gfx instead of installing an external gfx card? |
This is not really that important considering that it has a pci express port. You are free to add the gfx card of your choice assuming it is supported by drivers. A half decent graphics card cost basically nothing these days... |

| I can spot at least one problem with the layout. The PCI slot and the 1x PCIe slot should have swapped places.
Nearly all PCIe gfx cards need 2 slots i space. (card+fan) so the PCI slot will be unusable with a PCIe gfx card.
Alot easier to find a use for the PCI slot then the 1x PCIe slot. |

Great news !
I think the SM502 (128 bit 2D engine) is laptop friendly. The SM502 has hardware accelerated video decoding (which the ATI cards cannot do at the moment).
linky for lazy people : Linky
I hope the FPGA is big enough for Minimig AGA core.
I dont know what the performance of this 1 ghz chip is like. But its a good speed for AmigaOS.
Overall its a nice system. we just need to see some videos of it in action _________________ Download 499.26 Mbps, 659.94 Mbps Upload :)

| @ WOSPUPOS4 There are a ton of single slot GFX cards around.
@Tuxedo 64Mb of Vram is said to do very well for mos users where on macMini is the most they can get, I based my judgement on that. However I agree with you that the more the better, if they can make overclocked models, go for it i would say! _________________ SamFlex Complete 800Mhz System + AmigaOS 4.1 Update 4 Amiga 2000 DKB 2MB ChipRam GVP G-Force040 Picasso 2 OS3.9 BB2 AmigaCD 32

The current U-Boot version support booting from the following devices:

use the same PCI ones you have for your amigaone's, however im sure someone will come up with something else thay *have* to use the PCI slot for. _________________

as said elsewhere, Mhz for Mhz the 440ep and 460ex are as fast as each other, apart from where the 64Kb cache on the 460ex comes into play.
this board gives you a speed over 800MHz, up to 2gig ram, gig ethernet and PCIe slots over the sam440 range.Last edited by Derfs on 02-Apr-2010 at 09:59 PM.

| Congratulations to ACube on another welcome addition to the Amiga stable. I'm sure we will see AmigaOS4 support in the near future.

| I've been talking with an os4 developer in irc about this board. He said none of the current os4 builds will run on it, but it wouldn't take too much work to make it happen. The fact that its posted here tells me there's a good chance it will happen. _________________ Hate tends to make you look stupid...

Wonder if in the future Amiga OS 4.x will come on an SD Card or be downloadable to a USB memory stick to install.
It is quite possible that someone with one of these machines will not have a DVD drive. _________________ Sam460ex : Radeon Rx550 Single slot Video Card : SIL3112 SATA card

You can get single slot 4670 and 5670 cards by which point you've either met or exceeded the max bandwidth PCIe x4 can deliver. Lower down the model ranges you'll mostly find single slot cards.Last edited by Rob on 02-Apr-2010 at 10:56 PM.
