Software News   Software News : Timberwolf Alpha 1 released
   posted by RuDeE on 9-Jun-2010 14:29:19 (17769 reads)
From Amigabounty.net:

Quote:

We have to apologize for the long absence. Workload, personal issues and other things slowed down development considerably.

However, we're finally able to make the first binary release of Timberwolf. This is going to be an Alpha version, meaning it will be prone to crashing and misbehavior, it will be slow, and not all functionality is implemented yet.

Future plans include an update to the latest baseline source code of Firefox (3.7 beta), an Amiga-specific theme, as well as a major rewrite of the rendering code. The current version of the rendering code (Did we mention it's an alpha release ?) has some conceptual problems that will lead to misrenderings, and massive overdraw (some webpages might be rendered 2 to 8 times, you may notice the window will turn black several times during page buildup).

Feedback is welcome; please point your browsers at http://amigans.net and visit the Timberwolf support forum.

Have fun with the first release.

For the first time an Amiga-browser shows a video:

It really works! (yes I know we do this all the time on PCs and Macs but seeing and embedded video on Amiga tastes like a new beginning ).

P.S.
Your link shows the whole movie but the "exerpt" on the main article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Buck_Bunny
plays slightly smoother on my Sam

Somebody should let that former Netscape fellow know his browser finally runs native on AmigaOS...

As soon as its code it's open sourced...

Wrong. For the first time an AmigaOS4 browser. Quite a difference. Still, congratulations for the release.

@Deniil715

Over the past few days i've been trying OWB on MorphOS, I can watch YouTube videos inside the browser even on a G3!

This is of course a great achievement, but it's a first for AOS4 only!

Well done to the developers... I hope this means other OS's (AROS/MOS) will be able to get a port too.

Great work.

Installation went well... And Timberwolf is working... better and faster than I expected

It actually feels (except the rendering) almost or even faster than on my Winboxes, or is it just me

The only "bigger problem" I had was I can't type @ nor copy it to a login field so I couldn't test Facebook on it, but never mind that, I'm sure it will be fixed over time. Anyway, I can't wait for the next release.

Very good Friedens!!

Sound support isn't implemented yet, just a couple of stubs.

Wow! This is just so cool and it feels great . I'm actually having a smile on my face again ant it's been awhile since I had that using my A1.

Thank you so much! The less I need to use the PC the better and this will change the need for it a lot.

@Hondo
I'm pretty sure it will be the case, people were talking about Firefox as a "bloated" browser that didn't run fast on modest x86 machines, while we have it running pretty well on Sam and it's not even optimized! (can you think how fast the Final version will go on the x1000? )

Timberwolf on micro A1
- Timberwolf running on A1 video.
AmigaAMP was running in the background which probably caused the guru at the beginning.
