Software News   Software News : First native build of Quake 2 for AmigaOS 4.0 released
   posted by Rogue on 2-Feb-2005 17:06:01 (14150 reads)
Leuven, Belgium - 2. February, 2005

Registered users of both AmigaOS 4.0 and Quake 2 can now find a first OS4-Native beta version of Quake 2 in Hyperion Entertainment's download area. Note that this version is restricted to software rendering but should otherwise be fully functional.

Enjoy!

@Toaks

Ok maybe it is me being £%&# in Quake 2 then

I tried again but I was thrown out from the game - 'client overflow' or something. Are only three clients allowed per game?!

client overflow happens from time to time, 16 players is max at same time on AW server.

just keep on trying and remebr to NAME yourself in the multiplayer player setup.

That's a little bit too cryptic for me, can you elaborate?

btw, I've copied the files as Toaks suggested, but Quake2 stays on the 'Loading' screen for a looooooong time. Any ideas why?

Ok, I can understand the game blocking out new players if the maximum amount of players has been reached. But I was already in the game, and while changing map I was kicked out - very annoying

It seems I cannot change the player setup at all - if I go to the multiplayer setup and select 'player setup' the game complains 'no valid player model found' - what does that mean? Am I missing some files?

That's what I have in there (ctf/ and baseq2/ as they come from the PC CDROM). I'm not sure if this is everything that may be needed in mod games, or if there is something extra listed, but at least this setup works nicely (just tested multiplayer too).

Quake II and its icon are a script that increases the stack and starts the game, whip up your own with whatever command line settings you may want to have.

@GrumpyOldMan

Do you have a players/ subdir in baseq2/? It should have the models and their various skins in it.

@ajk

yes, I have all those files (with the same sizes), but when Quake2 says "Loading" I get a lo-res window with:

Loadlibrary "snd-paula.dll" failed
0.0.0:0: client-connect

It then just keeps loading ????

@RedMelons

You can remove the Paula dll from Quake2 dir as AHI is the only viable option for A1/OS4 Q2 - then the game won't try to load it. Also remove the old gl
dlls if you have any (only software renderer dll is needed ATM).

Yes I have the files. I noticed that I have to start the game from shell - otherwise the multiplayer setting screen does not work properly.

Thanks for the match btw, hopefully I will be able to offer a harder fight later

@all
What is a 'ZBot Auto aim'? I was kicked from server for using one - which I didn't as I don't even know what on earth it is!

>Register your Quake2 copy to see the quake2 downloads.

I've long ago registered Heretic2, Quake2, Shogo and Freespace. The ONLY download I see when logging in is the Freespace demo. Other games have blank listings. No updates for ANYTHING. I even just tried reregistering and the web page told me I already had it registered, but still no download files...

I never did get my "official" OS4 prerelease disk to register that, but I'm lead to believe there should be something to download for OS3.9 anyways.

:/

@billt

You need to have OS 4 registered. Contact me in private about that.

I take that back, a little bit later the new registrations went through and suddenly I could download OS3.9 stuff. For those missing files when they login, try registering the product again...

Doesn't give me any OS4 updates of course, but might be helpful info to someone.

I have Quake2 working now (thanks for the advice ajk).

My hard drive partitions all had a 512 blocksize. I've changed them all to 2048 blocksize, and Quake2 now loads

There is still quite a long pause between levels though. Is there any way to unpack the .pak files?

@ Redmelon

You can use Unarc in the AmiDock to unpack the .pak files. Really easy!

Make sure that you first unpack pak0.pak, then pak1.pak and then pak2.pak in this order, and overwrite whatever file is already unpacked when asked.
